War Glue - The Ultimate Glue?

I totally agree about pinning. A pinned miniature will stay together a lot longer than any glue will hold a flat-jointed figure.

Super glue works well for most things though I'd probably be tempted to use a 5min Epox glue on bit white metal monsters (I get it everywhere though!).

If it weren't really ridiculasly expensive I might even try it to say how bad it was.

I have to confess that, even though I mostly use pins, I have had occasions when I've firmly wished I had some superglue accelerator.  There's a brand of superglue I keep forgetting which comes in three bottles: the glue, an accelerator and a release agent.  It's called something stupid like Zzap, but I've heard several first-person accounts of its effectiveness.

Haven't you ever had a joint that just refuses to bond?

only when I very young and I used to use glue I bought in the pound shop and never did any pinning

I've used the Zzap stuff before and its pretty good, not significantly better than any regular superglue though. The excellerator also worked with the other brand of superglue I had at the time (I forget which one though).

The best use of the accelerator was to fill holes by filling it with bicarb then dropping some superglue on then spraying some accelerator onto it, instantly solid and sandable gap filling. Worked well on model railway stuff anyway hehe.

I tend to just breathe on setting glue to help it dry a bit as superglue drys with moisture and breath has a lot of water vapour in it compared to air, got to be careful not to breathe in the fumes too though.

Ages ago a guy tried to sell me this stuff called 'microballoons' or somthing, which had pretty much the same effect as baking soda from what i could make out but was about 6 times the price

Loctite Ultra Gel.

It's got some vulcanised rubber in it. Or something.

It's handily workable for a good few seconds (even on porous surfaces), and is kinda shock absorbant too. Holds well even when spannered white metals fall to the floor.

No substitute for pinning of course, but for the sake of convenience it's pretty good really.

I have some Fixsal trade super glue 20g which I keep in the fridge for 2 reasons:1/It thickens the solution & makes it easier to use,so that it does not run all over the place,2/I believe the glue last longer in a cool enviroment.I only ever use this as a last solution or because it is appropriate.As a rule I never use super glue in model making,as it easily 'breaks'.As other members have said-'Pinning' is the number one safest method.I would rather use a 2 part epoxy glue & hold a piece together by hand for 5 minutes,than chance a super glue.On the full size K9 the ears have 3 toothbrush rings stuck to a cocktail stick......each one was epoxy glued & held by hand to get them just right.Sometimes with 2 part epoxy glue,it may be possible to hold the item together in a vice or with a rubber band or by gravity.There is a risk on fiddly bits of sticking your fingers together,so wear gloves or make sure you have the de-bonder.
