I was browsing around this morning seeing if one of the many wargaming websites I visit regularly had been updated yet (which it hadn't but thats beside the point) when I noticed the following words in the ad banner “Made Exclusively For Warhammer War Glue Wins The Battle Every Time” which caught my attention (not least because of the 'Exclusively for Warhammer' bit, I think GW may have something to say about that). So my interest aroused, all be it on an altogether cynical level, I followed the link.
I had a quick look round the site, read all the standard claims that glue manufacturers make ... bonds in under 3 fifths of a second ... only 1 eighth of a milliliter drop required ... there is no waste ... the nozzle never clogs ... it can be used to repair wood, plastic, metal, resin, porcelain, international border relations, rifts in the space time continuum ...
I also read “Garry's Story” and several Testimonials along the lines of ...
Bill Trafficcone - Vice-President of Preston Armature Wargames and Airfix Society (PAWAS)
“I have been wargaming for over 50 years and in all that time I have never been able to assemble a single miniature with normal glues. At first I was highly skeptical about War Glue but after I tried some I was thrown into catatonic shock by how well it bonded. It's the best glue ever, I would recommended War Glue to all 3 of my friends”
... there was also a Testimonial from a Mother and Housewife which even include the words “As a mum I haven’t got time to ...” as seen in most washing powder adverts.
Anyway sarcasm and satire aside I'm not slagging off War Glue, nor saying it doesn't do what they say it dose. My point is this: Do we really need an Ultimate Glue to stick miniatures together?
In my opinion no we don't.
And why? Because of something these people seem to have never heard of .... PINNING! - I mean how fikkin hard is it to drill a couple of holes and put some stiff wire in them? Is there one large rock in north england all these people live under in ignorance of one of the basic techniques of miniature assembly? I kinda want to email a pinning tutorial to these people.
Any way to be fair I'll put a link to the website at the bottom of this post for those of you who might be interested. but I'm also going to put a link to the Heresy Miniatures pinning tutorial
http://www.warglue.co.uk/index.phphttp://www.heresyminiatures.com/howtomake01.htmfor the record I use Loctite Super-Glue-Gel and 0.5mm iron wire and have never had any trouble getting my miniatures to hold together. For plastic miniatures I use Humbrol Liquid Poly
