Another DotD or gaming day?

Mass participation games.


We throw out games down, and we all pick which to play on the day, we all play. Work out what models will be wanted or needed in the time it takes till the event.

I'd love to get down to THW more often to game, I could definitely manage making it once a month.

Mass Participation is a good idea but generally takes a lot more preparation than anything else.

I'll bring my spaceships down next time and probably my 15mm WW2 stuff.

Well, not really true.. I only lost the time to play mine because I was thinking we'd have a longer day. I was prepared to spend a few hours on other games if it'd ended later.

If I'd known it would be 6pm, I'd have started it right away >.<

Ok this isn't exactly what I wanted to discuss here - but fair point

Remember for those of us gaming locally to THW we have The Skeleton Conga-Line on Facebook through which to organise games

and I see no reason we couldn't have a monthly-ish gaming day

However here I wanted to talk about another large event in the new year

Being able to arrange for THW to be open longer I think is an important factor - but that may en-cure extra costs

Ah my bad, well yeah I'd be up for another DotD. I'd love to get a big mass participation game with everyone contributing minis and terrain organised but finding a particular project that everyone would be excited about might prove difficult.

I rather like the Dystopian Wars miniatures and think a big game of that would look very impressive but I'm not sure who else might be interested in that other than ApocolypseDreamer. Oh and maybe through Gav we could get some semi-official support for it.

No reason we can't have 2 DotD a year or if we must have a different name it should have the word Lost in it surely

There are quite a few Dystopian Wars players at THW you could get involved and it would be a great way to raise interest in the forum

I was thinking to take one of the 6x4 ocean tables and a 6x4 land tables and create a 6x8 and have a massive combined arms battle going on. I should probably read the rule book for Dystopian wars before I get to head of myself though

One of the things I will be working on for THW next month is likely to be a set of modular 'Land and Sea' terrain tiles which could be used for such a game

i dont think time was a factor....

 we can either make DotD II like a "fete", where some of us have a "stall" i.e a game we run, and people have a stab at it then wander off, or B make it like it was on saturday, which was a loose sort of collective where people just did there own thing but hung out in the same room geeking it up.

obviously sort game sor pick-up games would be best for this, and more invloved games might not be ideal. for instance AND I MEAN THIS AS NO WAY A CRITICISM, Mortis' dungeon quest seemed to tie people up (including mort) for a large part of the day. but that suits the idea of it being us meeting up as a group of casual players.

Scenery to go towards a proposed Game or what ever we are doing.

I was thinking more in terms of games you could run or provide mini/terrain for ... for instance your Predator game might draw a crowd

I'm afraid Nicky has the monopoly on making our cakes already

Theme music I have more than sorted, but a stereo that works better than the one at THW would be useful in that area
