Yme-Loc Eldar Warlock (Finished!)

So, after some general chatting with my Dark Heresy GM I mentioned that I wouldn't mind to have a go painting one of his many Warlocks. Considering he had managed to break a decade of my absence from war games he relented and gave me a lovely old Jes Goodwin sculpt.

I chose the colours of the alternative Craftworld Yme-Loc after seeing a particularly good looking Farseer which really inspired me with the stark contrasts of the orange, blue and grey.
I'll post a link here for your perusal. http://www.coolminiornot.com/237657

So, here are a couple of progress shots. I have to say I am very happy with the way things are going considering apart from being shown some new techniques and trying these out on some old Swooping Hawks, I haven't painted anything in about 10 years.

Shading and highlighting on robe.

Shading and highlighting on helmet and faceplate. (Before glazing)

Obviously I have a little way to go, if anyone has any tips in general or specifically in the area of crystalline blue blades I would appreciate hearing them.

Thanks for reading my first real post.

He's definitely coming along nicely, the orange on the helmet in particular. The robes are nice and neatly shaded too.

So far so good - I'll comment more when you've got him finished

Yme-Loc Eldar Warlock WIP (Update)

In reply to this post by SynapsEase
Finished the spearhead and started adding definition to the hair.
I got a good glow effect on the spear and will add brighter highlights to the hair to accentuate this.

Also these show the helmet and face after having glazed them and the base coat on the straps and pouches.

Pictures aren't amazing but I promise I will use a proper camera and decent lighting when I have finished the project.

Love the glowy speartip (HUR HUR), definitely coming along very nicely, just all those tiny fiddly little detail bits to go haha!

Yme-Loc Eldar Warlock WIP (Update 2)

In reply to this post by SynapsEase
Ok, gems done finally. A little hit and miss in places but it has been a long time.
Just got to finish doing the highlighting on the spear for the OSL, base it and it's finished!

Well holly crap! Don't be complaining about those gems they look awesome! Yeah the staff tip could use a bit more pop now, maybe some very pure white highlights on the edges? Maybe think of another light highlight on the brown too, the pouch in particular is a little flat....I'm now being very picky because you've very much shown you can do some very nice detail work  Also sand is looking about right for what you were saying on facebook

So, I have finally managed to finish this project. Took a while due to winter based lack of inspiration but I've done it.

To Rob, I took your advice on the browns to heart and have added some subtle line highlights as to not draw the eye too much.

So, without further ado here are the final pics.

Think I managed to capture the idea of an arid but not infertile world with the basing.
P.S. Sorry if this thread is a bit bloaty.

Very nicely done!

the contrast between the bright blue and orange and the main grey of the figure make for a very interesting colour scheme - keep it up!
