Wildfire

I'm finally gettiong my ass in gear and posting this cos I've been increadibly lazy with my posts recently.
I put photos on Facebook a while ago an Mortis said I needed to get them on here a bit quick.
Epic fail on my part.
So here's the pics.

Mortis said he'd like a build report, but these dust kits don't take long to build, this one was less than an hour so there really isn't a great deal of point.
I painted it in Tamiya colours  by airbrush, I used general olive drab and filled all the pannels with a lightened shade of OD to show wear and where the sunlight lightens the paint.
I put the decals on, on a gloss surface, I use johnsons clear floor polish and use micro sol setting solution to get the decals to adhere to the surface better, it softens the decals so they mould to complex surfaces too.
To matt it down after, I use Gallareia artists matt varnish, its top notch stuff, I've not seen anything make a matt cote better than that stuff.
The grass is by a company called Treemendus, I think its made from re-cycled 70's anoraks, I painted it green as it normally comes in a sandy colour.

I can't think of anything else to write, so feel free to ask questions.

Re: Wildfire

Excellent work again dude and nice to see you back on the forum again

What I was curious about  from a building point of view is what these look like in kit form before they are assembled

I do like that 'Treemendus' grass, I must look into getting some for terrain projects
good tips on using decals too, I'll try that

There isn't much I can say about the build, its less than 30 parts to the kit for a start.
The kit itself is resin, but the production is superb, normally resin kits come with the parts in bags and molding gates to cut off.
This kit comes in a shaped clear plastic tray with each part in its own seperate spot like a box of chocolates.
There are no damaged parts and because they come in chocky box style, there are no mold gates, all I had to do was a touch of minor sanding and glue together.
Basically its a case of pour glue in the box, shake it and you have built kit ready to paint.
All in all, the build took 30 mins.

Oh my god, a M45 quad .50cal mounting on walker? That's to fucking cool! Love the paint job you've done. Its got a sort of Italian campaign vibe to it to my eye, I'm sure walkers would have been much better in the mountainous north of Italy than tanks were. The custom pin-up on the back of the pilots jacket looks very cool, gives him a bit of personality which is good as helmet and goggles can real take away a lot of that.

From the Dust universe I take it? Think I'm going to have to invest in some of the 1/48-ish Dust mechs that have come out for the Tactics game, seen them for around £18 each which isn't to bad. Just checked out the FFG website and it looks like these will be available too! Two to a pack for the same prices as the medium walker. Awesome!

Go for it Robert, it looks smart and I'd be interested to see how the walkers come out.

Looking at it, I think out of all the walkers I've done, this is the one that would be easiest to build as a 40K walker, I'd use a sentinel for the legs, probably a bike for the body, and I'me sure something could be knocked up in the way of armourment, perhaps a couple of heavy bolters would go nicely.

Anyone fancy having a go at a kitbash to prove me right?

How much deos this kit cost to buy. I do think if the price is right it makes a great sentinal replacement. M

The 1/35 scale kit that Spurticus has made is pretty expensive and large for a sentinel (RRP of about $90USD)

There's going to be a 1/48 scale version for Dust Tactics released (no date yet but its up for pre-order a few places for around £20).

Looking forward to seeing how any attempts to make one of these  for 40K turns out.
