WIP HeroQuest minis

One of my long term, back burner, slowly getting done between other things projects is to re-base and paint at least 1 set of HeroQuest figures for use in games. I've always loved the Heroquest figures (and furniture) and IMHO it's testament to their quality that the designs have stood the test of time and still look great next to the new figures of today nearly 2 decades later.

Probably the hardest part of the process is the re-basing which involves carefully sawing away the base from the model's feet using a very sharp razor-saw, trying not to damage the figure in the process. I then clean up the figure and carry out some minor conversions if I feel the figure needs it before re-mounting it on a standard gaming base (usually with a bit of textured plasticard to give it a nice dungeon-y feel)

Here's a few pictures of some of the HeroQuest figures I've been working on

Mummies
^ Mummies, the one on the right has it's arms re-positioned and the hands replaced with ones from the Zombie sprue

Zombie
^ talking of Zombies, here's a stock HQ zombie remounted on a 25mm base

Heroes
^ Work in progress on a Barbarian, a Wizard and a Dwarf. This particular Barbarian had a broken sword so I replaced the sword blade with the runesword from the Chaos Marauder sprue to represent the Spirit Blade artefact from the original game. I never liked the 'young wizard' figure too much, I replaced his raised right hand with one holding a sword from the Mordheim Mercenaries sprue and added a head to his staff made from 2 Night Goblin shield-bosses carefully glued back to back. The Dwarf is completely stock apart from the new base.

undercoated
^ A Fimir, a Chaos Sorcerer and a Goblin, under coated and ready to be painted. Note that the Fimir and Goblin have had their damaged weapons replaced.

Box of Minis
^ One of my bitz boxes crammed with minis from quite a few copies of HeroQuest, Advanced Heroquest and several expansion packs, as you can see I have a long way to go with this project

Re: WIP HeroQuest minis

I have to say I'm still rather fond of these minis too.

You've done a great job on the mummies, the bandages look perfect.

Hmm I'm pretty sure you traded me a set of the hero's, I'm going to have to dig them out at some point and paint them up I think.

here's a few more:

^ I used parts from the Mordheim Mercenary sprue to convert the elf to be armed with a Bow and Shortsword, the quiver on his back is from the Khemi Skeleton Sprue. I will later do a Spell-Warrior version of the Heroquest Elf too

^ 2 Orcs and a Goblin -- The Orc on the left has had it's feet swapped out for the booted feet of a BattleMasters Orc for variety, while the middle Orc is a re-based BattleMasters Orc with a newer Orc Shieldboss added to it's shield. the Goblin on the right has had it's head replaced with a helmeted head from a very old Plastic Warhammer Regiments set and re-armed with a sword from the Skeleton Sprue

^ Chaos Warriors -- the one on the left is a stock Warhammer Quest Chaos Warrior and the one in the middle is HeroQuest Chaos Warrior. The final one on the right is another HQ Chaos Warrior with some parts from the old multi-part plastic Chaos Warrior sprue added for variety (note the small skull replacing the orb between the helmet's horns)

~The ravings of a single mad Goblin is bad enough, but such a power-hungry, malice-filled creature as Mortis can never hope to be understood~

Re: WIP HeroQuest minis

Nice work as always, the elf looks pretty cool. Still a fan of the old chaos warriors, I'll have to ebay up some when I have the money.
