Ultramarine 3rd company

Thought I'd stick some WIP shots up for ridicule. Appologies for the bad lighting, taking photos of minis at midnight really isn't sensible but I felt like it, my cammera seems to be refusing to focus on things as well, probably due to the lighting.

So without futher procrastination:

Chaplain Cassius with some sternguard:

Cassius on his tod:

Some more sternguard

Some 3rd Co marines using the new blury camo tech, they're all AOBR marines too.

Command squad:

sculpted 3rd co. banner, I've got into sculpted banners I think they look cool:

And for kicks here's my converted Sicarius, the original model is nicely detailed but the pose sucks ass, no action and it makes sicarius look a pansy rather than badass.

I've got a full squad of sternguard painted but most of them need serious amounts of neatening up. The rest of the army is pretty much just tac squads. People seem to not be looking forwards to facing 57 marines in a 1,500pt game. Oh they've got a rhino too but its still in its box.

Re: Ultramarine 3rd company

The sculpted banner is excellent.  But why've you not properly based any of your models?

Thanks Robey.

I've never based up miniatures before painting, just the way I do things I guess!

Nothing wrong with basing models after painting them.  I recently saw an example in White Dwarf that converted me to the idea under certain circumstances, in which the painter added sand to the base after painting the model, which was then shaded (and bonded) with a heavy coat of ink mixed with watered down PVA: a good, well-protected finish that looked excellent.

But no model looks finished unless it's got its base done somehow, IMO.

I didn't pay attention to the Sicarius conversion before.  I love it!  I seem to be detecting some sculpting work on the model.  Is that a trick of the light or have you redone his shoulder pad?

Re: Ultramarine 3rd company

I've always painted models then added flock and slate and whatnot right before I seal the figure. I'm not to fond on basing that is to detailed, tends to draw attention away from the figure in my opinion.

I removed the original right pad and replaced that arm, so there's been some gap filling, and the U on that pad is one I've sculpted too.  Cutting away the left pad so he was aiming his pistol was the most difficult thing though, trying not to damage it or the torso was tricky with my blunt old razorsaw.
