I've been putting together a freebie website on playing Space Hulk using the old solo rules as abasis and adapting them to work with the 3rd edition missions. Any feedback would be welcome
You can download a PDF of the rules. I've now added reports to Missions 1&2 and more PDF downloads inc 1st & 2nd Edition Floor tiles, Rules to 1st & 2nd Edition & Genestealer & Deathwing plus extra missions..... |
Welcome to the board,
Nice little site there Re the solo rules: Are you happy with the play-tests? Is it challenging enough? I always find that completely random solo rules always end up making some stupid decision that no-one in their right mind would make The old SH solo rules were full of holes that your rules do a really good job of smoothing over. The issue of 'moving against space marines on over watch' was a big one for me in the old rules. I seem to remember that originally you weren't allowed to move into the fire-arc if you were too far away, effectively pinning the stealers down. The build up of stealers and the subsequent timing of a mass attack is often key to their tactics. A solution could be to make 'Bloodlust' (when the stealer charges into over-watch fire), more likely to happen once there are a certain number of stealers lurking already? I usually play solo by rolling a dice to roughly determine the entrance the stealer comes in at, and then using my common sense to see what it does from there. I find it is easier to avoid the temptation of cheating if you have a frame of mind that is simply curious to see which side will win Anyways, thanks for sharing! They are good rules, and I will be definitely be borrowing some of the ideas in my games (I like the broodlord placement rule). Have you posted it on 'the geek' yet? I'm sure you would get plenty of opinions there Over and out. ps- Looks as though you are a veteran gamer! I'd love to know about any other projects. (ever considered solo rules for playing the genestealer side instead?) |
Hi Samuel
Thanks for the welcome and kind comments. I'm trying out adapted rules at the moment on mission 3 of the 3rd edition. The main problem is Genestealer entry and behaviour as you rightly say. The trouble with random entry is that at times it makes no sense (very true in mission3), blips 'appear' well away from where they are needed. So I'm trying to develop a 'weighting' system for the entry point dice rolls based upon the proximity of the Space Marines to certain entry points. The rule I introduced on my site to do with Genestealer behaviour towards Over Watch is working quite well! I'd be very interested to hear from anyone else who can give it a go. As soon as I've ironed out the entry problem I'll be playing and posting mission 3 to the site! Yes I am fairly veteran... I started back in 70/71 and have hardly stopped! Hello and Welcome to The Lost and the Damned Arcadianlegion!
Why not introduce yourself to the rest of the forum on the Introductions Page I'm a big fan of SpaceHulk and SpaceCrusade, back in the day I used to play a few solo-games too, I'll be sure to check out your rules and give them a try some time
