Sister of Sigmar

Here's a Sister of Sigmar I've painted up as an alternative character for Madame M to use in Quest. It's not often I paint humans, normally you'll find me painting Demons, Orcs, Ratmen, Goblins and other things. In fact the last time I think painted a human was another Sigmarite which I painted for Axl about a year and a half ago.

No conversion work done here other than adding a shield bearing the twin-tailed comet which I think came from an Empire Knight. It took me a while to decide on a colour scheme for the miniature – I originally wanted to use red and off-white to match the colours my group has adopted a general colour scheme for Sigmarites, but Tracey had requested the mini have red-ish-brown hair (much like her own) and was worried about it not standing out so well against cloth. I looked through the pictures in the Mordheim Rulebook and found an alternative Blue and White colour scheme, but I still wasn't sure about it. In the end I opted to invert the originally planned colour scheme so that the 'dress' part of her robes is red and the tabard is white – thus keeping most of the red cloth away for the hair.

The flesh uses a simple method of Bronzed Flesh and Ogryn Flesh wash to good effect (careful use of wash and re-highlighting goes a long way). The red parts of the robes were painted Red Gore highlighted up to Blood Red through 3 stages, while the off-white parts were built up from Graveyard Earth through progressively lighter mixtures using commando Kari and Bleached Bone. The hair was given a dry brush of Bestial Brown, Followed by Snake Bite Leather and then Bubonic Brown followed by a wash of Baal Red to give it it's colour. Metals and leather received standard treatment and I painted the comets on the Hammer and her belt gold, but opted for yellow on the shield and then decided to make the boarder on the cut of her tabbard the same yellow to match. (apologies if you can't see all of this in the pictures due to the poor lighting)

Bonus picture time now:

^ Here's how the model looked when I first got hold of it, prior to clean-up and re-painting

^ and here's a slightly blurry WIP shot with the skin just finished – note that the mini has been dry brushed in 4 shades of brown after being undercoated. This aids highlighting at later stages as long as you keep you layers thin

Re: Sister of Sigmar

My *only* gripe would be the yellow. But it's a bastard of a colour, and does not deserve its place among the primaries.

Re: Sister of Sigmar

Thanks guys!

The yellow on this miniature is 2 layers of Golden Yellow over Bubonic Brown.
Iyanden Darksun  is also very useful for base-coating yellows

I love it!! All I have to do now is think of a name. think think think......

Probably need to do a bit of background reading about the Sisters of Sigma to figure out a suitable one....

Can't wait to use her in a game. And I reckon she's doing a belly dance of victory - which is another reason I like her so much. Gonna have to tie Mort down at some point and get him to teach me the finer art of painting.
