This is another kit in the Dust series, its ther Ryu walker as used by Japanese forces, I painted it as a worn unit from the Imperial Japanese navy.
I though it would be good to make it as an ace's vehicle and added heraldic artwork to show this, I hade to hand paint these markings as there are no decals in the kit.
The base is done with anti-slip tread as I really couldn't decide how to base it.
The figure is a metal fig from a hasegawa kit that came as an extra in the initial run of a 1/32nd aircraft kit, I added him as the ace, I know he's a pilot figure but I think it works.
This is just brilliant. I've just been checking out the website, and I think you've captured the strange gritty mixed up world, better than they do. There something very haunting about depictions of a real Japanese pilot, then combined with the beat-up insignia-ed walker gives me the creeps.
Wow!
I've never ever given anyone the creeps with a model before, but somehow its the best compliment i've ever had.
It was a bit creepy the way the pilot came to be, I was rummaging through some stuff in the garage, looking for the foliage for the base of the micky walker and he fell out,
Karma, who knows?
I sort of set it then as one of those final photo scenes where the Kamikaze pilot is about to get into his plane, maybe you picked up on that idea Bill?
I want to die in my sleep, like my dad.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers
Excellent!
I agree with Mr Babble, lots of atmosphere to this piece ...

Yup, I think that's exactly it. As adults I reckon we transverse the moral hinterlands which start somewhere when we're kids "bang, bang, you're dead" lots of running about and fun, through to the awe of technology, powerful planes, tanks and so forth, and then as we grow the squishy fragile human elements seep in, empathy with people caught up amidst the sheer hideousness of war, the shadows of Hiroshima and Auschwitz, mixed up with the pragmatism of army logistics, cultural perceptions, modern news items and then out again into the fun-escapist world or cool tech, other worlds, the art of the models, the thrill of those worlds nearing our own, that thrill being based in little fear triggers (?), the round-the-corner very real scenarios, the celebration of battle imagery, political art, the grainy the films from the past suddenly seeming relevant today. ... Okay I'm babbling now.
From now on I demand a lower standard of realism, lower quality paint jobs, and no references to icky history.
You've been warned. Failure to comply will result in a bill for my therapy.
Awesome paint job which really sets a great standard to aim for..............on a personal level I love Japanese models/kits/figures.This is very reminiscent of the films 1984 or Brazil-future & past clashing together in a new synergy.Very creative.
