Hey i wanted to start playing a roleplaying game but I'm not sure which one. Im thinking of either an older edition of D&D, Rouge Trader, Warhammer Roleplaying, or just making my own. Which one should i do?

Depends on your friends I guess - what do they want to play ?
One really good option for new players is Dragon Age, its easy to learn, and few rules, but the Stunt system is so good Im thinking about adapting it for other games. Drawback is the setting, and that you need to grab 2 boxes, and you will still be locked at lvl 10, until they release the 3rd box. (I wrote setting as a drawback because some people might dislike the Dragon Age world, or know so much about it that they will argue with the GM about how stuff should/shouldnt be :p) |
well the thing is i don't have a gaming group so i was looking for one of those as well although i will look into that game.

Only you can answer that - but here's some things to consider SettingI'd recommend playing a game with a setting you're already fairly familiar with. For instance if you've played a lot of Warhammer try WFRP or if you've played Warmachine you might want to consider Iron Kingdoms and so on. You might be able to find an RPG based on your favourite series of books or a TV show, Comic book or Film. eg, Wheel of Time, Dr Who, Judge Dredd and Star Wars all have RPGs based on them.Of course things are a lot more open to you if you are prepared to learn a setting from scratch, D&D has many settings to choose from including Ebberon, Krynn (DragonLance), Forgotten Realms, RaVenLoFt, Greyhawk and many others (some of which - going back to my first point - you might know from computer games like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights) Many other RPGs also have their own settings and there are many to choose from The final option (and the one that requires the most work) is coming up with your own setting unique to you and your group. Experience LevelNo not your character's but yours - you and your group's - have you played any RPGs before? what rule systems are you familiar with? Are you prepared to learn a complex set of rules or do you want to start out with something a little more simple to ease yourselves into it? if you've played D&D before and know the rules pretty well then go with a D&D or D20 System game (Pathfinder is supposed to be very good) If your starting from scratch so far as learning RPG type rules find yourself a boxed RPG game which includes everything you need to get started - there are quite a few D&D ones out there and many other systems have starter sets too MiniaturesDo you want to use miniatures in your RPG? - if so check the system you choose supports miniatures and also check that you have or can easily get hold of the miniatures required - you may also need to invest in Battlemats, Floor-plans and Dungeon Tiles.D&D 3.5, D&D 4th, Iron Kingdoms, WFRP 2nd and D20 Starwars all support miniatures WFRP 3rd, Vampire: The Masquerade and GURPS do not

well the only books that i do have are some books from advanced D&D and i know were to find more of those rules for a large number of its editions, but I only ever played D&D once and I accidentally cut my own foot in half. I also have the main rule book for rouge trader ,however I just honestly want to be game master for a game of that. At the same time i feel like making my own RPG but I don't know how many people would support it.
