Right I was thinking that seeing as Gen Biakal has been entertaining us with some reviews I thought I'd have a go too

So welcome to the first 'Rob Reviews'!

em4's "mechs"

Price: £2.50 for 5 mechs

I bought these along with the other em4 bits I'm reviewing after trying to ignore them for a long time. I'm fairly happy with how these guys for the price.

What you get is 4 single body/leg pieces and a single mech with seperate legs as well as a number of seperate arms. These build to be arround 40mm tall so could probably pass as large andriods for 28mm sci-fi and smaller mechs for 15mm and 6mm. Mine came with round bases rather than hex ones, anoyingly these are slotted which isn't much good when the mechs don't have tabs. But hell I'll probably put them on 40mm bases anyway.

The detailing is very crisp (easily as good as GW), and no flash. I'm not a massive fan of the exact style but I'm prepared to work on them a bit to get them looking a little more 'titan' like and a little less 'megatron'.

One thing I do like in this set is the weapons:

In particular the missile pod looks pretty cool to me, the missiles sticking out need work but the pod itself is nice. The 'gun' arms are a bit weird, all barrel and not much for the action or ammo but what is there will come in handy for a lot of conversions. The arms with hands I'm not fond of, especially the spikey shoulders.

I'm quite happy with this purchase. Cheapest mechs I've found by far and with a bit of work I can see them working quite nicely.

Historical Accuracy: n/a - Not historical miniatures.
Value for Money: 10/10 - 5 mechs for £2.50 surely can't be beat.
Sculpting Quality: 9/10 - lots of detail on all surfaces.
Production Quality: 9/10 - plastic quality is a little 'meh' but shouldn't be a problem.
Personal Opinion: 7/10 - they're nice but will need work to be what I want.

Iv looked at these before and intend on getting 2 packs. Do you think these could make good servitors for my tech priest and marines.

I've had my eye on EM4 for a while now, I was rather disappointed when stopped doing our beloved BattleHive cases a few years back.

Also worth a mention from EM4's Sci-Fi plastics range are:
Gangers (Ref: SFP2) which would be good for bulking out Necromunda or Urban War gangs.
Space Rangers (Ref: SFP4) I'd recommend to anyone wanting some cheap space-marine types for a Space Crusade type game.
Spacecraft (Ref: SFP8) is also a nice little set perfect for adding a few extra small ships to any starship game or at a stretch some of them could also be used as futuristic air craft in small scale games.

I myself, being more of a fantasy gamer, am looking at ordering some of their plastic Orcs and Dwarfs to see what they are like. At 20p each (or an amazing £7.50 for 50!) I figure you can't go wrong.

Finally if your one of our older readers and have kids that are getting to the age where they want to get into the hobby and you don't have vast amounts of money to waste on GW products for them to chew, squeeze entire tubes of polystyrene cement over and haphazardly paint in flat colours without an undercoat; I'd strongly recommend any of EM4's plastics for them to practice on without destroying your bank balance.

@Mark: Servitors are cyborgs rather than full robots so you'll need some human bits to combine them with. These minis make for nice 'cheap and cheerful' robots or mechs but wouldn't be my first choice for making Servitor conversions.

Mark, as mortis said they're not really servitor types, I'd recomend using odds and ends of differant plastic sets to make them. There are a fair few bionic arms and the like available now.

Mortis, I do actually have the spacecraft as well, and will review them when I get a chance. The Gangers look pretty cool too so I might pick them up when I've got some cash.

Agreed mate i have lots of Gatachan, cadian bits.

Let me now when your ready to do a big order to get the deals in. I intend on getting a dwarf set.
