so, this is a project i started when the eldar plastic guardians first appeared (yes, that long ago!)
I fell in love with the Exodites after seeing Jes Goodwins' excellent Chaplain vs Exodite diorama :)
Reading up on the faction, Eldar who turned to a simple hard working life, i was devastated that they never appeared in 40k!
Having seen many people just plonk eldar onto lizardmen mounts i vowed i'd do things differently.
I set about making a demo miniature (he's been rebased); while a standard Guardian on Cold One, the cold one has an elongated neck (following Jes' mini) and snout. I planned on doing the tail as well but it isn't viable :P
the rider has a bare head (no helmets on my exodites!) and more hard-wearing robes sculpted on. i'll have a smattering of weapons on the riders (catapults or pistols) just to mix things up :)
after a break of a decade or so, next up comes an army list.
Autarch: 140pts
Jetbike, Mandiblasters, Laser Lance, Fusion Gun
Farseer: 133pts
Jetbike, singing Spear, Runes Of Warding, Fortune
6 Striking Scorpions: 138pts
Exarch: Biting Blade, Stalker, Shadowstrike
6 Pathfinders: 144pts
6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal
6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal
6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal
Fire Prism: 150pts
Fire Prism: 150ptsI've proxied for two games and both went well considering it's the first time i've ever played Eldar (bar Harlequins in 2nd).
the guardians are horribly fragile and have a terrible damage output but there's not alot of choice there; Shining Spears are horribly overpriced!
but it shouldn't matter too much, it's a modelling project, not a viable army! ;D
so, The PlanĀ© is:
Autarch: Exodite King on a Carnisaur
Farseer / Warlocks: Riding new (T-Rex style) Cold Ones
Guardian Jetbikes: Exodites on dragons as per the demo model
Pathfinders: stock models, Eldar on the path of the Outcast often visit Exodite worlds so that's fine :)
Fire Prisms: For these i'm going to make some form of support Prism thingy and mount it onto Stegadons (yes, i know they're fast, but ever seen a Rhino run?)
Scorpions: Not sure on these. may go for Exodites on foot in warpaint and tiki masks (sort like wood Elf Wardancers) ... suggestions welcomed!
so, while i was proxying the force, i got ahold of some Rangers from a friend at W@R :D
the more observant may spot a Spyglass Miniature in there... she matches one of
My Inquisitor Characters who is an Exodite Hunter :)
At the Bring & Buy at Triple Helix i've manged to pickup two stegadons (one NIB, one slick with paint!), a Carnisaur NIB, two Terradons (dunno, maybe Shining Spears once the rest of the force is done?) and a couple more Old School Cold Ones.
As these things are terrible to get ahold of, i'm going to convert the two old ones, each in two halves (left and right) with elongated necks and cast 'em in resin before plonking the plastic guardians (maybe with sculpted + cast torsos) on them :)
so, thanks for reading.. hopefully i can make progress with this project!
