Project: 40k Exodites

so, this is a project i started when the eldar plastic guardians first appeared (yes, that long ago!)

I fell in love with the Exodites after seeing Jes Goodwins' excellent Chaplain vs Exodite diorama :)
Reading up on the faction, Eldar who turned to a simple hard working life, i was devastated that they never appeared in 40k!
Having seen many people just plonk eldar onto lizardmen mounts i vowed i'd do things differently.

I set about making a demo miniature (he's been rebased); while a standard Guardian on Cold One, the cold one has an elongated neck (following Jes' mini) and snout. I planned on doing the tail as well but it isn't viable :P

the rider has a bare head (no helmets on my exodites!) and more hard-wearing robes sculpted on. i'll have a smattering of weapons on the riders (catapults or pistols) just to mix things up :)

after a break of a decade or so, next up comes an army list.

Autarch: 140pts
Jetbike, Mandiblasters, Laser Lance, Fusion Gun

Farseer: 133pts
Jetbike, singing Spear, Runes Of Warding, Fortune

6 Striking Scorpions: 138pts
Exarch: Biting Blade, Stalker, Shadowstrike

6 Pathfinders: 144pts

6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal

6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal

6 Jetbikes: 215pts
Warlock: Shining Spear, Conceal

Fire Prism: 150pts

Fire Prism: 150pts

I've proxied for two games and both went well considering it's the first time i've ever played Eldar (bar Harlequins in 2nd).
the guardians are horribly fragile and have a terrible damage output but there's not alot of choice there; Shining Spears are horribly overpriced!
but it shouldn't matter too much, it's a modelling project, not a viable army!  ;D

so, The PlanĀ© is:

Autarch: Exodite King on a Carnisaur
Farseer / Warlocks: Riding new (T-Rex style) Cold Ones
Guardian Jetbikes: Exodites on dragons as per the demo model
Pathfinders: stock models, Eldar on the path of the Outcast often visit Exodite worlds so that's fine :)
Fire Prisms: For these i'm going to make some form of support Prism thingy and mount it onto Stegadons (yes, i know they're fast, but ever seen a Rhino run?)
Scorpions: Not sure on these. may go for Exodites on foot in warpaint and tiki masks (sort like wood Elf Wardancers) ... suggestions welcomed!

so, while i was proxying the force, i got ahold of some Rangers from a friend at W@R :D

the more observant may spot a Spyglass Miniature in there... she matches one of My Inquisitor Characters who is an Exodite Hunter :)

At the Bring & Buy at Triple Helix i've manged to pickup two stegadons (one NIB, one slick with paint!), a Carnisaur NIB, two Terradons (dunno, maybe Shining Spears once the rest of the force is done?) and a couple more Old School Cold Ones.
As these things are terrible to get ahold of, i'm going to convert the two old ones, each in two halves (left and right) with elongated necks and cast 'em in resin before plonking the plastic guardians (maybe with sculpted + cast torsos) on them :)

so, thanks for reading.. hopefully i can make progress with this project!

Re: Project: 40k Exodites

Nice!
I remember seeing the original diorama way back in WD200 (BTW I believe it was in fact by Mike McVey) and I can clearly see the inspiration

Rangers look great also, nice touch including the Spyglass mini too. I look forward to seeing more of this project

I don't know if you've seen this picture of the Epic scale Exodites, hope it inspires

Cool, I've considered doing either Exodites or Eldar Pirates at various points, may well do some for INQ28 actually. Especially now that the Dark Eldar and Craftworld plastics fit together really well.

I look forward to seeing what you do with this army, should be interesting.

i expect i'll sell the army once it's done; depend how it plays (either this army or the orks have to go!)

well, please excuse the crap picture, but here's the test scheme :D

the bandana will change according to "tribe" (squad) as will the rune on the cloak :)

the armour plate and weapons are bone-ish to fit Wraithbone and there is a red face tattoo as well :)

the other stuff is about ready to come out of the Nitro Mors so i can convert a couple more riding beasts (*cough*for casting*cough*)

so, i've not been slacking.. too much  but work has been slow, mainly due to a bunch of commissions.. including a Wraithlord *wub*
but i've gotten one Pathfinder painted and about 1/3 through the sculpting work on the master for the Dragon Casts  should have pics in the new year

cheers chaps :D

so, here's the WIP for The Dragon... it will split into two castable halves and the head will be in two parts too :)

ontop of that, splashed some paint on to some Path Finders :)
dunno if the rune is right, but couldn't find a referance for the Eldar Ranger / Outcast Rune :(
i went for blue as i can't see alot of it appearing in the force and wanted these guys to look like outsiders...

finally, i'm struggling with the Banshee / Scorpion / Tribal idea.. can't find a style i like :(
so knocked up a few (banshee) ideas:

the rest of the head would be covered with a massive bushy hairdo (ala the old Jain Zar illustration) and some more detail on the masks themselves...
suggestions welcome on how to move this squad forward :)

so, cheers for looking! :D

i happen to have a copy of codex eldar to hand-

*scrabbles to get it*.

ok, my camera phone wont take a decent pic of it, but...

the ranger rune looks like the Dark Reaper one, without the horizontal straight line.

so it goes

curved upward line at the top of a vertical one, stuck into the top of a downward pointing triangle.

like this (oh the wonders of Paint): ta-da!

Yeah that is an awesome looking gun, the platform looks a little odd (to heavy even if it is made of super light wraithbone), I'm sure you'll get something together that will look right in the end.

You lucky git! At least I know who to butter up to get discount Firestorm Armada minis now
