PROJECT: Heavy Wrecker Engineer Tractor, Workshop 5, 'A' wagon

Guard Recover Tank

This is another one of those "thought about for ages but never started" projects I have had on the burner for a while. The main problem was finding bits for it. I wanted to get hold of decent looking industrial fittings that sat scale wise and also "felt right" in the 41st Millenium.

the design is part based on the Combat Engineer Tractor in use with the British Army and others up until recently, and the old wartime US Heavy Wrecker.  The rear winch is i think off an ork trukk, with a towing eye very carefully cut from a rhino tow loop. the structural bars on the sides are from the same railway model as the crane, and the mount front and back towing hooks, and also provide a load bearing frame and lash points.

I have not decided yet if the main crane traverses or is static. I prefer the latter but the other is possible.

" Hours before the air had been filled with curses and weapons fire... now it was full of curses and threats of violence. Rondo walked accross the sand eating a local fruit and nodding occasionally to the ArcoTech teams the Imperium had sent to scavenge alien technology. He  followed the sounds of frustration comming from the large and muddy crater before him, knowing full well what it contained.

"fuckin FING! Mo'uv ya bastad!" "UUUGh!" "if it dunt mooove nah, Am gunna smack it."

Everard, Rondos ever faithfull bodyguard, was knee deep in the ooze with three other Ogryns trying to drag the roughest looking chimera he had ever seen out of the filth.
This time of year on Snakefish North the sand often had large pockets of muddy water just below the surface, and the crew had ploughed right into one opened up by a large shell blast. the suction, and the fact some Ogryns were pushing, some pulling, some just plain PUNCHING the hull meant it was probably stuck there for a while. The area was covered in spent cases and small craters and Rondo knew this area had helped hold the entire line. The Ogryns had been stuck there and couldn't rush off in to trouble, so had provided quite a good fire base. especially after Everard had realised he could throw his grenades quite far, and they had a little competition to see who could throw furthest and kill the most.
Everard looked up pleadingly, as behind Rondo a recovery tank chugged to a halt. Cables were thrown to lash points on the striken vehicle, and the Ogryns were ordered out to slowy dry in the sun. With a roar of engines and an audible and slightly risque sounding pop that caused booming sniggers from the Ogryns, the filthy and battered chimera was pulled out onto dry land.

Once it was clear the cables were removed and the Chief mechanic warned they would need to water jet the tracks clear before they drove it anywhere.

Rondo walked away shaking his head as Everard and his boys pulled open their trousers and urinated long and loud on the tracks to clear them of the muck..."

That's looking pretty damn awesome I have to say. I've got a bit of a soft spot for Engineers vehicles and this is no exception. Using the sideframes from the raiway kit's chassis was a genius idea.

Excellent Stuff! I think I've rather over used the phrase 'Your best yet' but your vehicles just get better and better

Excellent use of parts as always and brilliant paint job, it puts me in mind of the fantastic Imperial Guard vehicles you used to see entered in Golden Demon in the late 90's - you've reached that standard!

You've got some great stuff going on with your armour, I really like the way you have delved into the logistical side of the army as well as the combative.

thanks man... you should go back a bit and check the 349th AF(R)'s full compliment! much of it is due to GW not doing support vehicles, or indeed not doing the ones I WANT. the rest is I get these ideas bouncing round my head for unique vehicles and just have to make them, like a buzzing in my brain!
