Its actual designation is “C Comapny Command tank “Invigilus”, Command Platoon, 349 Divisional HQ”. We call it the Magician... why? Cos its so clever, its like magic. Its spooky. Take what happened last week- the vox net was stupid with comms from an action taking place about a mile away around a wadi. It was around 35 degrees outside so the top hatches were open... we were well away from any fighting and that desk kicks out a hell of a lot of heat. The Airconn... anyway, so im sat there, sweating and trying to find a quiet spot in the voxnet to send some data and the FFF light flashes on and the threat siren goes. FFF? Thats what we call the Visible Threat Awereness Light. ‘cos if it comes on mostly you only have time to say FUCKFUCKFUCK before your dead meat.
But forget that, listen. The threat systems go crazy and i look down at my main screen- it takes like a half a second. And there it is- FIVE ballistic threats heading our way, supersonic. Five. I mean thats bad news in a russ, but in our little can? Emporer Protects! So I have about a third of a second after that to tense and then I hear it against the hull- “plink plink plink plink plink”.
Can you believe that? That dish is supposed to give accurate tracking on any missile, aircraft or, well anything in the air biger than about 10cm cubed. Ground targets, moving ones, the resolution is accurate for anything over half cubic meter in dense terrain. This had picked up five autogun rounds stray from the fighting a mile away. Whats an autogun round? Nine mill? Ten? and twenty long?
And thats not even the worst. The very next day we were rolling along and the threat board goes again. FFF right? But before i can do anything the wagon slews to the right, I hear a shout from the front cabin and then two muffled “pops” and a massive loud whoooosh!
This crazy truck had scanned the threat, angled itself towards the incomming missile so the front armour would take the hit if it DID get us, fired off the chaff on the roof, popped smoke at the front and fired our OWN HK missile off in return.
In about 3 seconds, maybe less.
The threat missile hit the ground near us with a crunch and I scanned the Sat-Net. Three miles away a rhino sat, on fire. A second was heading away from it just about as fast as it could.
Sweet yeah? But you know these things can only make minor adjustments to the controls WITH DRIVER CONSENT and only during a satellite upload? Its to stop the signal being cut off mid stream. and it should NEVER fire the HK without my say-so. Thats why i got a commendation, one enemy Rhino destroyed. I might as well have a nap.
Like I said, spooky.
I’v decided riding round in that wagon is the safest spot on Snakefish!
...and you know what else? Persophone gets very angry if She’s not parked next to it in the hangars of an evening. Make of THAT what you will...Lt. Aldo Schveer, (Operations Officer 349th AF(R)
here are a few pics taken with some of the extras added on.
im really happy with the pintle stubber... its from the Stormlord kit.
these ae the canvas rolls iv had to glue on the back to hide the panel gap of Kia Pride preportions...
no false modesty here... this is not my best model. but thank god its finished bar a bit of tarting up here and there. the command desk kit wasn't quite what i was expecting but the large desk and the jump chair looks ok inside an imperial tank... the FW kit really is bad tho. iv always felt a little smug when people say what horror stories they have had and mine have been till this one, very positive.
it is a standard Trojan, with the winch replaced by a Russ roadwheel with a dish on top. the port side comms array is a standard new style Chimra Improved comms kit.
on the starboard side is the main antenna and the standby comms array. iv fitted a flamer to the hull and a heavy stubber (which will actually be a bolter in game terms) will be fitted soon too.
I plan to use this as a Salamander Command vehicle, which is a nice cheap HQ choice that can issue orders and has front armour 12. the actual trojan ammo carrier has armour 10 oddly.
as i said there are a few odds and bits to do but to be honest im glad to be shot of it... i had very high ideals regarding this model and its not panned out as cool as i had hoped!
