Rapier laser platform

PRICE?

a sort of ok £25

WHATS THE THINKING THEN?

4 GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS MODEL:

1. zzzzzzaaap!
2. looks very detailed
3. about time the Guard got some FW love
4. retro design looks like the old thudd gun

6 SHIT THINGS ABOUT THIS MODEL

1. price
2. it looks far to G.I Joe. google GI Joe S.L.A.M
3. what no Aquilla?
4. not really "possible", even in the 40k sci-fi setting
5. maybe too retro? no one wants heresy era guard.
6. look, they really fucking dont.

LONG STORY SHORT...
while it brings some "pew pew pew" to the guard, A i cant use it in my main army (Armoured Company) and B its rules are a bit meh... while S9 ordanace is ok, and twin linked, itsrange is piss poor, and with BS3 your gonna need that TL. i might possibly get one, or even try to build one (wish i'd not sold that thunderfire cannon now) just cos a bit of anti heavy tank dakka is always handy, but as a HS slot its a bit of a price to pay. but 40pts does mean it is useable in small games, and adding it to the guards low priced hydra and griffon, and giving them a chance at smaller games.
im not sure about the retro design, but it does have a charm. using cadian troops on the pictures is surprising, as it cries out for Krieg.

the best i can offer is; might be worth a look...

I like the detailed controls (something a lot of 40k machines lack) and it has some other nice details too, but over all I'm not that keen on it, it's an odd shape and the lack of any imperial insignia makes it look all the more dull and generic.

ok what I'm going to do now is plonk in a picture of the what I consider to be the classic Rapier Laser Destroyer

Ignore the goofy-looking Rapier 1 at the top there and look at Rapier 2, that is the model they should have made.

and while I'm here I'd just like to point out the new rapier's similarity to Mantic's 'Forge Father Jotunn Heavy Hailstorm Cannon' (which is about half the price!)

Replace the Dwarf on the back with a human, trim down the gun shield a little and replace those chunky ammo drums with some energy-cells and you've got a perfectly serviceable Rapier Laser Destroyer

the track angle of attack... lack of power storage etc... also it looks like it will only do walking pace speeds...

lol, ... yes, I do mention Mantic a lot around here

but, be fair it's worth mentioning similar models that could save us gamers some money

BTW: shortly after Mantic had their Abyssal Dwarfs ready for production, FW did a regiment of Chaos Dwarf and now as the Jotunn Heavy Hailstorm Cannon hits our shelves FW bring back the Rapier Laser Destroyer - I can't be the only one who's seeing a pattern here

On balance I'll say I'd prefer the classic old GW Rapier Laser Destroyer to Mantic's Hailstorm Cannon but it's all down to what you can get hold of
