Hi everyone,
Thought I'd share a new universe I've been developing in the back of my mind for a while. Here's some concept art for the ships:
Here's a very rough outline of these factions:
The Terrans are probably the probably what you expect. Us humans in space. The Terran Alliance first started out as the United Earth Space Agency (UESA), not a government at all but a simple global effort to get into space. Once the first human colonies were founded the old system of government simply faded away as it became obsolite. However all didn't continue so well, the first alien wars erupted and the rather naive UESA colonies were hit hard. Human space was divided in two by the Aukadians. The half containing Earth quickly became highly militarised as the older human instincts of war took hold, with much of earths military past being drawn apon by the Terran Stella Navy. Within the Terran Alliance it is not uncommon for families to be large compared to today's standards and many people are employed in the military or the many companies that supply it.
The other half of humanity, known simply as 'the colonies', became fragmented with no clear leadership or goals other than survival. Its only of late that some of the factions have managed to agree to mutually co-operate with a council running them (the colonies would be another faction but a more minor one). Many of the colonies are very 'frontier' like and people live primarily in heavily fortified cities to protect them from raiders and other hazards of their harsh lives.
The Aukadians are another humanoid race. They are percived by humans to be greedy and underhanded, but they simply follow a 'survival of the fittest' ethic to an extreme. Most Aukadians move up through society through murder and extortion. Not a particularly high tech species none the less they far outnumber humans and their military is vast.
The Brotherhood of the Cloud are an enegmatic race from a world within a stellar nursery, known to them as 'the mother cloud'. They are an odd race by human standards, not so much religious but more cult-like, with many sub-divisions but all dedicated to the mother cloud. Of course they're highly protective of their space, as its not just their home but much more to them. They're not agressive or even particularly active outside this area but are increadably fearce within it. Due to the abundance of proto-stars much of their technology is powered by high energy plasma fuels created from solar matter.
The Tarak'djan are a very predatory, hunter race. Vaugely insectoid by human understanding with heavily armoured carapace. Their homeworld is completely unknown to the Terran Alliance, infact not a single one of their colonies has ever been found. This may be because they have none, or because of their unusually advanced stealth systems which can hide large objects from even the most sensitive scanners so long as their energy output remains small.
