Since I didn't post much a part from the pictures, I'll point out a few things of note now

First of all - look at the great level of detail on both models!
Note the distinctive 5 barrel arrangement of the barrels on the Forge Father's pistols - a design I hope to see carried across onto other Squat ... I mean Forge Father ... weapons, I'm looking forward to seeing maybe a tank or robot with 5 barrelled chain-guns and so on. Also of interest is the Orx's 3 pronged power claw. While many will claim Mantic are copying Warhammer 40k models when creating the WarPath ranges, I think despite the subject matter (Traditional fantasy races in a sci-fi setting) Mantic are clearly putting their own twist on the ideas to create what I'm sure will become a instantly recognisable range of Sci-fi miniatures.

Support Mantic for they are the affordable and high quality future of Sci-fi Wargaming!

It's.... strange....
As we can see, there's a GREAT detail level in these miniatures.
I wonder how can this be possible without FineCast? I'm confused...

Just hope Kings of War does not get too left behind now that Warpath has taken off.
Maybe i'm just being paranoid but i felt a bit uneasy when Mantic announced a new Sci-fi range was on the way.
On the other hand i hope Warpath takes a massive chunk of players/profits away from 40K!!!

I'm sure Mantic will give ample support to both games (and any other systems they might come up with in the future)

We can only hope that 40k players see sense and go for the more affordable option - I myself and I'm sure the rest of the Forum will of course be giving Mantic full support in their endeavours

and while I'm on this thread here's another picture from Mantic!

So far, what I have seen, Warpath is 'average'
So far I'd have to agree, but they're trying to take on the big boys and I think they're doing rather well given that the game isn't even on sale yet. I don't really think its fair to compare a game that's nearing its 25th year with one that's not even released. Rogue Trader certainly wasn't without its flaws.

The marauder basic troops are the old kings of war orcs, with space weaponry!
Which is strangely exactly what GW did to make the current generation of Orks about 15 years ago and haven't done anything but re-cut them ever since.

Metropolis wrote
The squats are quite blocky
Yeah they are, not to keen on them myself, may well use the rules but for other minis.

Metropolis wrote
The vehicles are in a finecast equivalents, why not plastic so conversions are easier
I have to correct you: Mantic's resin plastic is nothing like GW finecast. Totally different material and casting process. Mantic are doing their vehicles like this because it makes them a lot cheaper. Big plastic vehicles means really expensive steel moulds, whereas the resin plastic they use can be poured into much cheaper rubber moulds. I wouldn't be surprised if they do variants on their vehicles. The resin plastic is also really easy to cut with a razor saw.

Yup but Mantic are trying to make money by listening to what their customers want rather than telling them what they want.

Metropolis wrote
Warpath will hopefully develop and be a good game system with some good miniatures
I hope so too, I can see it going one of three ways: either they take a bit of a risk and keep up developing a lot of new models and rules, lots of people buy them and it goes really well, or people don't buy them and it falls flat, or they don't keep up pace and the game fails before it starts.

The new pictures of the models on a table are promising, it looks a little interesting and that's definitely a good thing.

Ooh I hasten to disagree with a lot of that

Metropolis wrote

So? the 40k Orks are sculpted from the same stock parts as the WFB Orcs (not to mention that all the space marine models from the last 12 or so are the same with some minor details changed) - lots of companies base newer miniatures on older ones

Metropolis wrote

I don't quite know what to say to that other than : well they are Space Dwarfs, it's kinda their thing

Metropolis wrote

I'd hardly call it a FineCast equivalent - it's closer to the plastic type stuff Privateer Press use for the newer Warjacks - The plastic-resin Mantic have made their vehicles from is easy to work with and much more durable than FineCast (not to mention much better quality control)

Metropolis wrote

Yes, but Mantic are also in the business of making high quality miniatures at low prices - while GW do rather the opposite these days

For me 40k has been stale for a long while now it's all about Spaze Mahrines and their Mehtal Bawkses.

People still get excited every time a different colour of Spaze Mahrines get's a new Matt Ward Codex - I think a new game with new affordable high quality models and it's whole future ahead of it is a lot more worth getting excited about than a new book that makes the same old various colours Spaze Mahrines slightly more powerful than in the last edition

Totally agree with Mortis.

We must remember the most important things about Mantic:
-Good miniatures
-Good price
-No £ineca$t

+ Other planes lie beyond the reach Of normal sense and common roads But they are no less real Than what we see or touch or feel. +

Re: More Warpath Awesomeness from Mantic!

and here's some more again!

^ the all minis from the 'Fate of the Forgestar' box (and some dice too)

^ a nice close up of the Forgefather's 'Hailstorm Cannon' vehicle/artillery machine

^ a Squad of Orx Grunts

^ Forge Father Leader and Heavy Weapons (Stormrage Veterans)

^ Forge Father Troops (Steel Warriors)

It seems that (unlike the Orx set) the Forge Father troop set doesn't include the Leader and Heavy Weapons (which come in a separate box), this has disappointed me a little because I was hoping to be able to buy a single box to use in as Squats in Space Crusade - but on the positive side it shows that Mantic have thought about giving different forces different organizational structures
