They are sub-human creatures who live in swamps, make foul pacts with Daemons and rely on kidnapping and ritualistic rape for reproduction - but enough about what bible-belt Americans think of D&D players, here's a bunch of my Fimir!
Apart from a rather battered old
Dirach I'm restoring all the Troops and Character in the Fimir Warband I'm slowly working on are based on the classic HeroQuest Fimir (which thanks to owning many copies of HQ I have dozens of!), so I'm having do a little conversion work to get as much variety out of the minis as possible.
The Fimir Champion (or "Fianna Fimm") has been re-armed with a HQ Orc's Sword and Given an old Citadel Shield with an equally old plastic skeleton boss to fill the hole. It's tale has been carefully repositioned and given a 'blade' end made from an Orc spear-tip.
The Fimir on the bottom left has had it's axehead swapped out for one from a 2nd edition 40k Ork Warrior
The one on the left of the final picture has a HQ Chaos Warrior's axehead and a slightly repositioned tail, while the final Fimir is completely stock.
As for painting, the description in WFRP1 says “their hides are smooth and leathery, and colour varies from buff to a light olive green” so I decided to experiment with different combinations of Karnoc Green, Camo Green, Catachan Green and Gretchin Green for the skin on each figure. The Champion came out far far lighter than I intended so I used several layers of Green Glaze and Thraka Green Wash to try and rescue it make it darker - it didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it do and thus he doesn't quite match his fellow Fimir Warriors
Fans/owners of HeroQuest will also note that all the above Fimir have been re-based on 25mm round bases with textured plasti-card - this is done by carefully sawing the integral base away from the model's feet using a very sharp razor-saw (trying not to damage the figure in the process). I then take a piece of plasti-card of the desired texture and lay it textures side down and pick a few bases I want to add texture to. The top surface of the bases are coated in Liquid-poly and placed firmly down onto the back of the plasti-card, once the Liquid-poly has set I use a tough pair scissors and my modelling-clippers to trip down the excess plasti-card to the edge of the base. The miniatures are then mounted on their new bases using more Liquid-poly
Future plans for my Fimir include some extreme conversions to make warriors with 2-handed weapons and a few Boglars (Swamp Goblins/Marsh Gnoblars) as slaves and cannon fodder types. I may also purchase a few of Blood Moon Miniatures's
'Bog Raiders' to use as Leaders and Champions
