Hi
I started wargaming back in the late 60's using H G Wells 'Little Armies' rules... very Edwardian and Empire! During the early 70's it became ECW and Napoleonics with the availability of lead minatures by companies such as Hinchcliffe and Minature Figurines. When Minature Figurines produced the first LOTR 25mm figures in the mid 70's it coincided with the arrival of D&D from the USA so fantasy gaming took off. I discovered Games Workshop at a Toy Convention in the late 80's when they were launching the first version of Warhammer (I think!). As by now I was a Dad I got it and started playing it with my son, which lead to Rogue Trader, Space Hulk, 40K, Man O War, Necromunda, Mordheim etc, etc, etc.... In fact the only game I've never enjoyed is the 40K Epic.... I don't know why, just never got on with it. When my son gave up wargaming I gave all the figures etc to a friend in Germany as I had lost interest as well. Heresy I know, it was a 'phase' I was going through. But when I was made redundant last summer I bought myself Warhammer & 40K again and enjoyed painting the figures.... and then I saw 3rd Edition Space Hulk... so here I am! Here's one of the 'old' 40K battle pictures. |

Welcome once again
Sounds like you have had a long and honoured 'tour of service' in the hobby! I've read HG Well's Little Wars and wrote a brief review of the book on the forum when it became available as an electronic text in 2008. http://the-lost-and-the-damned.664610.n2.nabble.com/Little-Wars-td1301975.html#a1301975 it would probably have been a later edition as Warhammer 1st edition was released back in 1983 so your what we call a 'relapsed gamer', it's good to have you back in the hobby. I hope you enjoy the forum Great pictures by the way (if a little on the huge size, I suggest using the medium re-size function on the picture up-loader) I love the old 'Screamer Killer' Carnifex and it looks like you had a nice mixture of home-made and Necromunda/Outlanders terrain back in the day.

(Those pictures are so large I feel like I'm a fly or something. Mind you the decor is cool - is it an underground bunker? :o )
Greetings arcadian legion! That's some serious history you have there. You've definitely come to the right forum, where aged players with pockets of dice and puter lay down their tape measures and reflect upon arcane systems ... |
Hi
It was the basement with slightly damp painted brick walls. It was ideal for wargamming as it could take a 6'x4' table. Sorry about the image sizes, I didn't realise they'd upload so large. It's strange getting slowly back into it and I do like the Lost & Damned forum, you all very welcoming and I hope to eventually get to meet you all at some convention/wargame meet. I live quite close to Nottingham but haven't made it to GW yet for some battles. Keep fighting! ^ Yup. Lost and the Damned makes you feel like you've never left.
It's a sort of welcoming pit of familiarity ... The old rule books, the smell of the paint, the boxes of figures, the unfinished campaign ... It all makes sense somehow. Become lost with the damn'ed ... Like Royston Vassey ... You'll never leave! |
