Grotty greetz!

Orkimedes
Now dis iz the sort of place dat a taktical mastamind can come to hear imself fink...

Ok, i'll stop talking like a twat now and say ello to all!

I must say I like the look of the pace here, and the distinct lack of kids is nice. Um, I'm not really big on introductions, but rest assured im not a kid, GW staff, or the Feds either.

I'm actually an unashamed, born again gamer. Harking from the dark days of Rogue Trader and 1st/2nd Ed Whfb, i've been back into the hobby for a few months now after deciding that giving up smoking needed a tactile replacement. Painting/modelling again it is then!

I look forward to meeting you all (?), I think.

Hmm, maybe I should've lurked for a bit longer first...

Hi mate!

Only slightly better? Probably!

Yeah, so far it's cost a fair bit, but i've also just discovered Flea-bay too, and thankfully just in time! My Marines (Chapter undecided) have now got bigger than my Boyz!!!

I think starting smoking as a teen actually brought about the downfall of my painting days, so it was easy to do a bit of reverse engineering on this one!

"Put the doobie down, and step away from the ashtray..."

Oops. Can I say that here?  Oh well too late. I think spending the last 15-20 years in a state of permanent musicianship didn't help y'know?

Well, there you have it: "Wargaming saved my life" I did decree!!!

Re: Grotty greetz!

Hmm, to save me from posting the same rubbish in about a dozen different threads i figured this woud help y'all understand where im coming from.

As part of my geek revival i've been digging around in boxes the garage and plucking out all my old RPG's and things. So far i've found:

Warhammer - 1st/2nd/3rd ed
40K - Rogue Trader/2nd ed
D&D - 1st/2nd (cant remember as I type this???) box set. Got it from a boot sale for 2p!
AD&D - plus a few handbooks/expansions/compendiums etc.
Gamma World - Later editions and expansions with little cutouts and hex maps.
Bloodbowl - The one with the poly board, 2nd ed i think, plus BB magic.
Dark Future - Still got the bits!
GW's Dragon Masters - Still playing it with the missus. heh
Hero Quest - Ugh!
Twilight 2000 - 'Future' wartime rpg.
Macross RPG - Rare now i'm told?
MERP - A well thumbed game of mine
Role Master - Same as above but with loads of expansions lurking too.
Wizards of ME CCG - Barely touched/mint decks.
Blood Wars CCG - Blimey, that didnt last! Shame as I quite liked the simplicity of it.

There's a few more that i cant remember at the mo, so i'll post up when I get a chance to rummage again. We used to play loads more, like the White Wolf series and Cyberpunk immediatly spring to mind. It's been quite an eye opener/memory jogger really, it's almost a shame that I dont get the chance to play most of em any more. Not to mention the lack of peeps that are willing or able!

40K has been the big one though. It's probably down to/thanks to DOW on the PC, but i've now got around 4-6000 points for each of my Orks and Marines, and regularly play with a few vet mates. So far we've had a good few dozen games since the great revival, and my W-D-L ratio stands at Lots-0-1.  And it was only a loss because my Razorback was around 3mm outside the objective contestion zone, and the roll to end the game came early. Ooops! He sportingly agreed it was a draw though as in 1 more turn i tabled him completely for a landslide win. The rematch was a different story however, hehehe. (Derrrr, I remembered to split my beakies into combat squads this time, something my entire force was set up to function around. lol)

The ol' magic is definitely still there. And the other guys don't suck either before you ask! I play a completely fluid, open game. No tactics (sounds stupid i know), no out-guessing, no maths-hammering, just pure battlefield JKD. I used to pwn everyone even 'back in the day'. My main objective at the mo is to get enough points painted up to enter the tourney scene and show all these 'pros' how we Iz Krumpin it round ere!!!

So if any of you lot are anywhere in/near east anglia, and fancy an utter kicking at 40k, give us a shout ok? Da Boyz would love some fresh meat on their bbq, and my Beakies are gagging to crush yet more heretics. Im not-so-quietly confident with this one as you may have guessed already.

Ok, willy waving aside, i'm a compulsive modeller and painter, which is what got me into wargaming and roleplaying as a kid in the 80's. I remember (vaguely) when blistas of mini's cost less than a £1 and GW had around um, 2 stores in the entire country. AD&D was new (well to me anyway!) and if someone at school knew you were into wargaming they would say "wow! what's that you're doing?". Then they'd work out it was role playing with 'little dudes' and rip on you for it forever more.

I missed out on the: "HA HAAA, they're playing GW games" stage, and seem to have got back into it in the days of: "Yeah whatever, I got some LOTR figures at home too. S'ok I s'pose". Whatever happened to having to hide your secret penchant for rolling bizarrely shaped dice, whilst yelling "I'll use my Broadsword!... Fire of Wrath!!!" at each other? Eh?

Oh yeah, It became socially acceptable to listen to 'metal' (of the new variety ) , and with it came the swarms of kids that now plague the other forums. Or so i'm told,  I don't actually go to any of em!

Now that I think of it, how on earth did I find, and end up here? I really have no idea actually!!

Waffle over for the mo... ;)

Greetings Orky-dude, you're clearly a bit of a gaming veteran!   Hurrah for the arcane knowledge. :)

(I've only recently joined and Mortis seems not to mind my desire to return all gaming to an earlier time purely for nostalgia, because I'm too confused by modern gaming and view anything collectable as a sort of capitalistic cult ... ;) Seems like a good place here... one day they'll break the bunker seals and find us but for now we are safe)
