GW's Arcane Ruins

I've been getting together some scenery recently to be able to hold semi-decent Modhiem games as well as stuff that can be used elsewhere (eg. Mortis Quest).
To this end I came across one of GW's more recent (and rather reasonably priced) fantasy scenery, the Arcane Ruins.

The main reason I went for this was because of the amount of different parts it comes in: The base, monolith, 6 complete columns, 6 broken column pieces and the 3 top stones are all seperare and can be used however you wish. I loved this idea and gives the application of this set virtually limitless. The way I have set them out in these photos are how it all goes together as a proper set.

As well as this, there are numerous different skull/demon facials that you can apply. As you can see, I chose to use the horned demon facials on the top stones and i used one of the plain skulls at the base of the monolith.

No horny jokes.......please........This was found by 'skull'-king around the ruins......ha ha ha ha......OWW!!!.......sorry......

As for the painting side of things, I undercoated Chaos Black, then heavily drybrushed Graveyard Earth on to have a kind of natural, earthen tone coming through. I then continued by drybrushing Codex Grey over that, but still allowing some of the earth showing through, and then drybrshed Fortress Grey over lighter again for highlights.

Now this has already made it's game table debut in the last Mortis Quest adventure (in seperate pieces across the dungeon) and I was pleased with how well my paint work matched the dungeon setting (insert the Axl Nose Gaming Happy Dance here).

To further also with this as well as my scenery collection in general, I have a £20 GW voucher that is going to be used on aquiring another fairly new GW fantasy piece of scenery: The Temple of Skulls.

I hope you have enjoyed taking a look at this and listening once again to my fevered rantings. I believe there should be some photos of the ruins dungeon debut going up on here once Mortis is able to upload them (were there some included in the photos I gave you recently dude?)

More on the Temple of Skulls when I've been able to get hold of it, which should be soon.

Re: GW's Arcane Ruins

Yea some pics of your arcane ruins being used in a game will be appearing in one of my up coming dungeon game articles

When are we likely to see the Temple of Skulls gracing our tables?

As soon as either I can get over to Bath to get it, or I can pass my GW voucher to someone who is heading that way to get it for me so I don't have to pay for the train. lmao

Looking ace!

(I think I may have bought this set - or at something similar, why can't I remember ...? - was hoping to adapt it for WHQ)

How about a little moss - or is that too out-doorsey?

You've really brought the texture out. Nice one. :)

Thanks guys and gals.

I was originally thinking of possibly flocking moss or possibly sculting some vines up it. The reason I didn't in the end was simply keep the set's universality of use, so it could be used anywhere from the heart of the Empire to a newly discovered underground temple on a far off planet as part of a 40k campaign.

I am now the proud owner of The Temple Of Skulls.......YAY!!!!!

Muchos thanks go out to Mortis and Mark for still being willing to take my GW voucher to Bath to get it for me, even after I pulled out of personally going on this trip with them this morning.

I still have a few works in progress to get finished before I start getting it sorted (My Averlander Mordhiem warband mainly), but rest assured that this will also give me time to make sure I've given full thought to how I want the temple done so I can get through it with a clear mental image of the finished result when the time comes.

Anyways, enough of my perfuse ramblings, I'm off to chill out of Dragon Age: Origins (OMG this game is so freakin' awesome!!!).
