I've been getting together some scenery recently to be able to hold semi-decent Modhiem games as well as stuff that can be used elsewhere (eg. Mortis Quest).
To this end I came across one of GW's more recent (and rather reasonably priced) fantasy scenery, the Arcane Ruins.
The main reason I went for this was because of the amount of different parts it comes in: The base, monolith, 6 complete columns, 6 broken column pieces and the 3 top stones are all seperare and can be used however you wish. I loved this idea and gives the application of this set virtually limitless. The way I have set them out in these photos are how it all goes together as a proper set.
As well as this, there are numerous different skull/demon facials that you can apply. As you can see, I chose to use the horned demon facials on the top stones and i used one of the plain skulls at the base of the monolith.
As for the painting side of things, I undercoated Chaos Black, then heavily drybrushed Graveyard Earth on to have a kind of natural, earthen tone coming through. I then continued by drybrushing Codex Grey over that, but still allowing some of the earth showing through, and then drybrshed Fortress Grey over lighter again for highlights.
Now this has already made it's game table debut in the last Mortis Quest adventure (in seperate pieces across the dungeon) and I was pleased with how well my paint work matched the dungeon setting (insert the Axl Nose Gaming Happy Dance here).
To further also with this as well as my scenery collection in general, I have a £20 GW voucher that is going to be used on aquiring another fairly new GW fantasy piece of scenery: The Temple of Skulls.
I hope you have enjoyed taking a look at this and listening once again to my fevered rantings. I believe there should be some photos of the ruins dungeon debut going up on here once Mortis is able to upload them (were there some included in the photos I gave you recently dude?)
More on the Temple of Skulls when I've been able to get hold of it, which should be soon.
