Fimir and Zoats ... are BACK!

Just been reading up on Warhammer: Storm of Magic and I came across this paragraph in the Orge Kingdoms entry

Ogre Kingdoms players are limited to Slave Giant in their own army list, but with Scrolls of Binding they have a huge variety open to them. An Ogre army accompanied by Dragons and Manticores will pack a helluva punch. Also remember that you can expand your spell repertoire by including a few more monstrous magic users, such as Fimir Balefiends and Zoats, not to mention Dark Emissaries or Truthsayers.
It looks like Fimir and Zoats are back!

also there is this rather teasing paragraph in the Storm of Magic Book preview

There are even a few monsters that have been resurrected from days gone by, which will certainly raise a smile from those of you old enough to remember them - the Fimir, Zoats, the Great Taurus and the Lammasu (The Chaos Dwarf Sorcerers will be pleased). The book includes the full rules for all these monsters and creatures so that you can summon them to fight in your army. Who knows, we might even re-release a few of the models.

Nice to hear Fimir are returning. Always thought they would be suited to Lizardmen armies personally.
The old HQ Fimir looked badass and we always used them as leaders for the Orcs.

Such a shame GW is a mess these days.

And only those that prosper truly judge what is sane.

Erased from history they were!  Games Workshop treated them like a heretical space marine chapter!

Naaa,  They were orky lizardmen with no sexual organs so they raped their captives instead.

Nice Huh

...wait if they didn't have any reproductive organs how would that work? And wouldn't that mean that eventually there would be no trace of their genetics left?

ok I think I need to clarify a few things here ...

Fimir are not Orcs or Lizardmen they are their own race and species, the Fimir are (or rather were) a lost and dying race, their females were rendered infertile when the collapse of the Polar Gates and the coming of Chaos spilled warp-dust into the world. The Fimir demonologist-mages made a pact (which supposedly turned the race half-demon) and the race now reproduces through the kidnapping and ritualistic rape of females of other intelligent races (normally humans).
the offspring of these unnatural unions are always pure-blooded Fimir and there are no hybrids

Yes, Fimir can some times be found leading small bands of Orcs but are not Greenskins/Goblinoids themselfs

Fimir are almost entirely males and females are rare (and of course infertile). Each Fimir stronghold is ruled over by a single female witch-queen called a Meargh. The males are divided into casts by the shapes of their tails.

The horned Dirach and smooth-tailed (which I'm guessing are now called Balefiends) are the demon summoning mages

Fimm are warrior cast and have mace-like ends to their tails, with their champions sporting spikes on their tails

Fimm nobles have blade and spade-like ends to their tails.

There are also the Shearl, a slave cast who are of smaller and weaker build to other Fimir and have smooth tails

I'm glad that Zoats and Fimir are coming back in the Warhammer universe, it seems that Squats will appear again too.

But I'm not so happy, because if GW will release them, it could mean that the new Zoats and Fimir could have a new ridiculous look like all the new stuff produced by GW (Boars, Minoataurs, Trolls, Tomb Kings...) and (obviously) I'm sure they will be too pricey.

My fears exactly, although it seems more likely they will just re-cast the old Zoats and Fimir in FineCast and tell us they are better detailed (which of course they can't be) and you'll be paying around £15 per model

Recasting old miniatures in FineCast is of course typical GW laziness - they can appear to be releasing loads of new models each month when in fact they aren't doing anything new. Of course your average GW fanboy morons will buy them because WD told them to

As for Squats returning - well that's more a topic for the 40k section but I will say this here ...
it seems likely that sooner or later some Squat models will appear/re-appear from Citadel or ForgeWorld if only as a half-arsed response to the fact Mantic will be doing their own range of Space Dwarfs for Warpath - we've seen a few old (and supposedly forgotten) things re-emerge in the GW ranges recently, it seems they are trying to get back the attention of us veteran gamers, but they will of course never do what we really want them to - which is lower their goddamn prices and improve their quality ... and also support games like GorkaMorkA and WHQ

well at least they aren't putting out new space marine codexs and are bringing back more of the old school models.

That's even worse... recasting old miniatures in Fine(?)Cast sounds like the new edition of the old Star Wars movies in Blu-Ray.

GW guys could act in this way only if they had professional ethics... a thing that GW losed some years ago...

I see it as more akin to putting a new version of Star Wars on Laser-Disc ... old worn out Laser-Discs that don't quite play properly ... and then calling these Laser-Discs 'Ultra-HD Ray DVD' and telling people they are a new higher quality format ... and of course charging 3 times what they are worth

++UPDATE++

So, this is the image of the Fimir Balefiend/Dirach from the Storm of Magic book.
The Balefiend is a spell-casting bound monster which can be 'summoned' by any Warhammer army and it's a monstrous infantry character (meaning it's on a 40mm base).

The illustration most closely resembles this Dirach model, so if (and it's a big IF) GW recast a Fimir it will most likely be this one - however it seems a lot more likely that rather than being a re-cast of an old miniature the official Balefiend will probably be a brand-new ForgeWorld piece (some one also suggested to me that they might do a plastic one - but I doubt it)

Also nit-pickers should note that in the illustration the Balefiend/Dirach has a smooth tail but it seems to be blade-tipped

- I'm off to look for more details on Zoats now

Well of course GW's Forge World have brought out 3 Fimir Warrior miniatures already (See the Thread about them Here)
but so far as I am aware no miniatures for the Balefiend/Dirach (the creatures they actually did rules for!) yet

If you're looking for Fimir miniatures I'd suggest The Bog Raiders by Bloodmoon

As for Zoats no sign of them yet - personally I think Zoats and Fimir were only included in the Storm of Shit ... I mean ... Magic book in an attempt to please older gamers, rather than because they planned to produce new model for them. (If you're listening GW they way to please older gamers is to lower your prices to a reasonable level, work on your quality control, stop releasing progressively more terrible editions of games, learn to sculpt fur again and drop the Pixar inspired design concepts of your newer plastics)

Maybe Citadel or ForgeWorld will produce a new Zoat in future but there is no sign of it yet
