Dungeon Pictures

Here's some pictures of my dungeon terrain being used in various recent games. The dungeon it's self is several sets of MageKnight 3D Dungeons that have been converted for use in our own games, I've made some minor alterations to the floor tiles and doors and also converted and scratch built furniture for the rooms. Please note that this is a long term and on going project and is not nearly as finished as I'd like, some parts are still being built while others (like some of the doors) aren't painted yet. I'd also like to point out that these pictures where taken during games and under less than ideal lighting conditions.

^The Dungeon pre-laid-out and ready for a Tunnel-Fight scenario in Mordheim

^Here Kat moves her Dark Elf Warrior to open a door in a dungeon exploration game using the HeroQuest Rules – for this kind of game the rooms and corridors are laid out during play by the GM (me) as the players explore the dungeon

^Mark's Dwarfs venture deep into the catacombs

^My Skeleton Warriors patrol the corridors looking for intruders

^Axl's Lizardmen sneak along a winding corridor

^A lone spluttering torch dose little to light a dark passageway

^A Beholder attacks 2 hapless adventures (with a little help from Photoshop)

^A Pillared hall layout, setup for some Moria style carnage

^My Skeletons corner one of Axl's Skinx Skirmishers

^Mark's Dwarfs storm into a room

^My Undead Warband runs into a bunch of Axl's Saurus Warriors

^Brutal fighting breaks out in a narrow corridor between Mark's Dwarfs and my Orcs

^A Skeleton conga line makes it's way though the dungeon

^My Undead and Axl's Lizardmen fight for possession of a room

^a strange (yet very distinctive smelling) 'mist' swirls through the dungeon

^Mark's Dwarfs take down a few of Axl's Skinx

^2 of my Orcs explore the dungeon

^ Axl's Lizardmen and their Fenbeast Ally (which I lent Axl for the game) take down my Cave Troll. Meanwhile, seeing their monstrous friend has had it, my Orcs make a run for it

More Dungeon pictures to come later!

awesome oldskool skelebobs. they are amoung the best minis GW ever made. fullf of character and piss to convert.

the old bowmen came with a right hand as if letting the arrow fly, but you could also make it look like his head was in hishands after another BS2 miss! they snapped off clean at the knee too for peg leg style conversions and the expressions were just awesome on some of the skulls. top.

as for the dungeon- awesome. beyond cool. i can imagone a darkend room lit by desklamps with a very interesting game being played! as i hear a new spacehulk is an almost definate comming soon (true story- get the net you guys) you can have a project converting some walls and floors to a 40k setting!

Re: Dungeon Pictures

thanks dude

Yea the old plastic skeletons are awesome, although the skeletons you see here are in fact the 'intermediate' plastic skelies (the you can still get the same sprue in the Khemri unit box) and not my classic Skeleton Hoard Plastics, both are great kits though and give you lots of opportunities for conversions.
The Greek style shields I used on some of them are some old lead ones of unknown origin (maybe Foundry) being lead shields on plastic models they tend to be a little unstable on the tabletop – but they look good and thats what counts for painting bone I start out with a black under coat and then dry brush Bestial Brown, Snake Bite Leather, Bubonic Brown and finally Bleached bone, followed by an extreme highlight of Bleached Bone mixed with Skull White on the skull. Although my first skeletons (in fact the first minis I bought ever!) where painted using the method you mentioned.

As for the Sci-Fi adaptation of the dungeon – I do have some long term (very long term) plans for some SpaceHulk type terrain (a while back me and Rob were discussing a Space Hulk type game )

Regarding the rumours of the up coming release of a new edition of SpaceHulk, I have my doubts, I've been hearing them since just before Black Reach Came out – probably because of the plastic terminators, but I have yet to see any real evidence. I've also heard rumours about Blood Bowl coming back too, they be nice to believe but I don't see it happening with they way GW are at the moment.

Re: Dungeon Pictures

i dunno- have you noticed how often bloodbowl and necomunda (NEVER NEVER the awesome gorkamorka) are mentioned in apocalypse/ultramarine monthly? i think they are gradually raising awareness for a new launch of side games to pinch our lunch money with

You've sorted those dungeon pics awesomely dude..........I would definitely agree regarding the lighting conditions (being involved in all the games being played pictured above) but they came out amazingly. Especially as they were all taken on either a Nokia N95 or a Sony Ericsson W810i......lol

Re: Dungeon Pictures

Yea the camera on my phone in fact dose a better job than the old digital camera I had. Still a lot of the pictures I didn't use here didn't come out that well ...

as for the Dungeon, I'm thinking of running a bunch of dungeon-crawling adventures using the HeroQuest, Advanced Heroquest or Mordheim rules. I'll also consider any other rule set anyone cares to suggest and put it to the vote.

Hey MortiS,

Where did you snag that rad dungeon textured mat you've got the Mage Knight stuff on top of?

Re: Dungeon Pictures

The textured surface under the dungeon in these pictures is an old 'Skirmish Board' I made for my Mordheim terrain years back. It's made from 6 adhesive vinyl 'mosaic' textured kitchen/bathroom floor tiles stuck to a bit of MDF.
You can get the tiles in most hardwear/home improvement stores (B&Q, Home Base, ect) they come in all kinds of textures but most are made to look like wood or terracotta tiles, these ones were made to look like a random mosaic pattern, which when painted up looked convincingly like 28mm scale flagstones (the tiles were originally various shades of red, terracotta and cream and I've seen them in blues and greys too).
I think you can also get the same kind of tiles in a 1” squared chequered texture that would be awesome for dungeons.

The board is currently on permanent loan to Axl and Little Kat, I'll try and get a picture of it on it's own next time I'm over at their place.

I managed to get quick photo of the board on it own while I was at Axl and Little Kat's place the other day. It's looking a little worn round the edges these days, I'm thinking about putting together a new one in the future.

^sorry about poor quality of the picture
