Been hunting these thing down forever and always end up at a dead end. I'm looking for scanned versions of the 'Deathblow' magazines. Any help would be appreciated.....interested to read them. Cheers

I think these were incorporated into the WQ compendium (theres a link to them here on the forum).
Of course I could easily be wrong, WQ wasn't my favourite GW dungeon delver (as my blog and posts here testify!) so I wasn't that up to date with it at the time. I'm sure someone more learned in the ways of WQ will come along and clear it all up sometime soon!
Visit my blog, about solo role-playing, Advanced Heroquest and system rants among other things:

Unfortunately the compendium only had the articles from the WD magazines, well the ones i've seen.
They seem to be as rare as a dolphin with a comb over..........once in a lifetime. Hopefully some one done has a passion for hunting down rarities.

I think I have two Deathblow magazines (were there many more?). To be honest at least 50% of the content were reprints from the brief period White Dwarf were championing Warhammer Quest. I'm sure I saw an article list.
Maybe I could scan in the contents pages and you can pick what you think looks good? Some of the characters are very disappointing (like the halfling whose special item is a "sticky bun") Also I think there was an assassin or thief character - but again, no substitute for the D&D thief (which is what I was looking for). The format was nice and compact though. If you can somehow buy them or find a PDF it would be better. Edit: http://www.gamehobby.net/subject_indexes/subject_deathblow.html This pages lists the alternative sources for the contents of DB1 (but you've probably seen this already...) - but like you've suggested the compendium would be good starting point. Hmm. There's a lot of pages to scan. Not sure I'm in the mood for wholesale copyright piracy tonight. Also it's at the other house... |

Sometimes I genuinely worry about the mental health of tabletop gamers. |

Hi talion78, Billiam Babble and everyone els
Happy to hear you have found those Deathblows you were looking for I have posted the deathblow and AHQ rulebook links: http://the-lost-and-the-damned.664610.n2.nabble.com/Deathblow-and-Advanced-Heroquest-book-td7366432.html To help those still searching for the Trump Fish. On the realated point I too am consernded BB, but not with mind of fellow players. NO.. I am warried about the Dolphin on 4 counts: 1. How it was able to consumme said Deathblow issuses, 2. How it was able to move the WHQ modles, flip the cards and role the game dice. I have found it very difficult to move and pick up small objects while wearing mittens. I would equate mittens to flippers ( read as Counts as rule ) 3. How said dolphin was able to achive such a delicate feet in the 1st place. In respect of the combe over. I guess that is some of the meany mystories of the fabled Trump Fish. 4. How mad must someone be to through there issus of Deathblow into the river or sea. As these magaizes are like gold dust these days. Although they could have had the magazines stolen from them, or more likly they were started by the appearce of the Trump Fish and droped the magazines. Some might say lucky dolfin. Happy Questing and let us know how you get on with the Deathblow issues. |
Cheers,
Typical hunting them down for ages then I get the opportunity to get them twice. I'm actually disaapointed in them, they have a few quests but not much else. The "Pits & Traps" manual is much better. The "Dungeon Bowl" manual is good as well with the additional counters.

CK! Don't worry about the dolphin.
It was delicious! Talion78 - I guess Deathblow is more like a sort of handy archive, I remember feeling a little let down - also the best cut out cards were in White Dwarf. Even at the time, they could have put more effect into the map art / plans. The whole thing smacks of GW not fully supporting Warhammer Quest, I believe. Some of the photos inside the covers are nice though. |
** Thread Necromancy ** A lot of the material in these were compiled from Citadel Journals and White Dwarfs(and a few cases corrected or added to the material originally presented). There were, however new articles here and there. It's too bad they didn't continue to do these as there is some interesting content submitted from Readers, etc. I do however like the Article on Building a 3d Dungeon in Deathblow 2. I would have preferred a full sized gazetteer or magazine more than the little 'Zine style they did for all the Specialist magazines but for cost reasons this was the obvious choice. Still full color PDF editions would be neat to see made. And for some of the WHQ community to pick up the mantle... but I am sure the fear of the GW Lawyers and draconian practices has made most shy away from that approach. About as close as I have seen to anything new at this level of output is by a gentleman whom goes by Little Monk whom has (and is still) doing quite a bit of Warhammer Quest stuff. Including writing full blown quest expansions (eg.Skaven - Tunnels Of Pestilence ) and some pretty interesting and informative reviews of the Official Expansions and Heroes (these can be found on the BoardGameGeek). ~Will ps. I recently acquired the final issue of DB myself. After about 6 years of watching on and off. |
