Dark Hunters

Hey guys - here is my first real 40k army. I've been making squads an units for a while to use with Space Crusade but this is my first legit 40k army. As you can see so far it consists of a tactical squad from assault on black reach plus a captain also from AOBR

And my devestator squad.

I also have a apothecary who is awaiting some more pieces that are on their way from the USA.

You might also notice that I glued them altogether before I painted them. This may prove to be a problem when the time comes to paint them (hopefully next week). I've decided to paint them up as Dark Hunters (dark blue with a bit of white) which will hopefully be a nice easy colour scheme.

And I found a Dark Angels Librarian on ebay which I bought for $1.86! Bargain! He should arrive in the next week or so.

So my question I guess is have I made it too difficult to paint by gluing first?

Re: Dark Hunters

I glue most of my minis together before painting, the Black Reach marines you've got there don't really have any 'hidden surfaces' to worry about so I think you'll get away with it in most cases

anyway I look forward to seeing some paint on these guys

Hey guys - I changed my mind and went with Raven Guard instead of Dark Hunters. Here is the Devastator squad almost ready. Just need to paint the parchments with a fleshy colour and apply a black wash to the whole thing.

Let me know what you think!

I found a great tutorial on painting black which is really easy to do and looks really good.

- Started by undercoating in black

- Painted armour a dark grey

- Painted shoulder trims and parts of weapons in a dark red (2 coats)

- Painted aquilla white (is that what it's called? the eagle on the chest)

- Painted eyes in bright red

- Painted red highlights in bright red

- Painted parts of weapons light grey

- Painted grey highlights in light grey

Next step:
- Paint parchment flesh colour

- Apply black wash to whole model

Hopefully I will get the black wash tomorrow so I can wash these bad boys and post up the results!

Yeah that was the best pic i could get last night, took a few close ups this morning.

It's the Vallejo equivalent of boltgum grey, its called cold grey.

Here's the blog that has the tutorial for painting black armour, I can't wait till my black wash arrives so I can finish these guys off and hopefully they will look something like this!

Edit: After looking at that tutorial again I think I need more highlights around the helmet
