Coffin Fodder

Here's some simple coffins I made to bulk out my collection of tomb/crypt pieces. They make for useful space-fillers in undead themed dungeon setups.

I cut the basic shape of the coffins out of balsa wood, carved a simple plank like pattern into the top and bottom and then stuck some scrap veneer given to me by Messy on the sides, which I also carved into plank shapes. The Coffins were then sealed with watered down PVA glue before painting.

Random Tip: when cutting/scoring/carving planks into a piece of wood make 2 cuts at an angle to each other like so:

The cobwebs covering some of the coffins and the wall behind were made from a disposable hair-net cut into small pieces and then teased apart until it took on a cobweb-like appearance

Just a note; When I used plasticard to make a coffin lid for one of my skeleton models (Dunno if you ever saw that one, Mort) I just carefully scraped the knife tip at an angle through plasticard to get the same kind of groove. It looks beautifully natural.

These look pretty cool for what will ultimately be a bit of decor.

Very nice! All of my coffins look good, but look the same (based on the same model). I look forward to trying these.
