I built and painted this model way back in 2003/2004 and I think it's really stood the test of time. Most of the parts I got from a special offer in the back of a White Dwarf which listed useful parts for building Mutants and Aliens for Inquisitor (this was back just before WD became completely rubbish). The rest of the parts I think I had floating around in my bits box. I originally intended on building a Possessed for a Cult of the Possessed Mordheim warband I was putting together inspired by one I'd seen in an earlier White Dwarf. As I began to assemble the model however, I realised it was going to be a lot larger than a standard Possessed.
The Legs are from a Blood Bowl Minotaur Character called 'Grashnak Blackhoof' (a name I've always wondered about since he has feet and not hooves), the torso is that of the classic Bone-Ripper and the left arm is from Scyla, Spawn of Chaos (a Chaos Spawn Character from the 90's). The head is from a plastic Wolf with some minor re-sculpting done to the teeth, plus the horns from a Zombie Dragon. Finally the large hand on the upper of the 2 right arms is from a Mordheim Possessed. This concoction of parts was pinned together and blended into one twisted creature using quite a lot of green stuff and a few basic sculpting techniques.
Once assembled, I saw that the Wolf head combined with the Zombie Dragon horns had given the beast a some what 'Khornate' look to it, so when it came to painting, deep dark red felt only natural for the flesh. The fur I painted in dark greys as I felt it complimented the red flesh. The claws, horns, spikes and other bony protuberances were painted in the way I've been painting bone and other such things for a long time. The metal parts were painted in various metallic paints I had at the time, but given an all over brazen look to fit in the emerging Khorne colour scheme. The leather straps probably got the usual Snakebite Leather and Brown Wash treatment and the eyes (which it has quite a few of scattered all over it's body) were painted in yellow to contrast with the rest of the relatively dark colour scheme. If my descriptions of the painting techniques seem vague here, it's because it's been quite a long time since I painted this miniature.
If I need to tell you how I did the base then you haven’t read enough of my painting and modelling posts yet and I suggest you read more
In the end this model did see some brief use as a Possessed but later took on the role of a Chaos Spawn to which, because of it's size, it's a lot more suited. This is one of the many models from my collection that ranks as a favourite, in this case because although it's made of a seemingly random handful of parts it's anatomy has a certain logic to it – each part of model relates to another bit in some way, the feet and hand are roughly human, while the claws on the left and lower right bear a certain resemblance to each other and the entire creature is covered with varying amounts of scales, fur and bare skin either as details on the original parts or extra details I sculpted. It's one cohesive (if twisted) creature as opposed to a jumble of mismatched parts and that effect can be hard to achieve on models such as this.
