I just did a search of this forum for the word Maptool and came up with nothing...
So brace yourselves!
Maptool is a virtual tabletop that can be used to play just about any rpg or board game you can imagine with people all over the world - in real time!
Last weekend I (Australia) played a game of Space Crusade with a mate of mine (USA) and it worked perfectly. We had a Skype call going as well so we didn't really use the system's inbuilt chat feature but I've since discovered that the chat window is good for pushing game information to all players. I have begun creating a Space Crusade campaign file for Maptool using tokens I have made from pictures of my models, pictures from the SC box and pictures found online.
This system has a host of features that canbe used to accurately emulate almost every aspect of Space Crusade, from assigning player tokens to each player and have them customize weapon loadouts and commander options, having a collection of blip tokens which shows the GM (or Alien player in this case) what each blip token us but it shows the blip token to players, light and heavy weapon dice rolls that are broadcast to all players, in-built health system for commanders/dreadnought, fog-of-war giving the alien player a section of the board which the players can't see in order to organise their forces.
I began with just the Ultramarines as that is the squad my buddy likes to play but I am in the process of adding the other 2 squads and setting up a macro that will draw and display alien event cards. When it is finished I will post it up here and we may be able to organise a few international games of Space Crusade!
