Nice one Billiam

I got the first edition of Descent a a while ago on Fleebay as prices are currently pretty low (£40).
It's a great resource, but I had few fairly large issues with the rules being a bit arbitrary, more akin to a computer game than an RPG (where rules usually attempt to create a credible semblance of reality). The included quests all way too long and the included flavour text is pretty paltry in my opinion.
The core combat mechanic, and the components are fantastic however! I really like some of the models ..and this is the great shame; with a bit of work it could have been
The Best Dungeon-crawler I've Ever Played (statements that bold deserve capitals and bold text

).
This tragedy spurred me on to finish a rule set for an RPG/campaign version of vanilla Descent, and a starter campaign to go with it. If anyone else here gets interested in first edition I'll post it up, as my group have had some fun with it, and it's fairly thorough

It is hard work to convince some members of the group that I'm not a sadist however (that a particular boss monster required 35 lives when they've just run into the last room at the end of the heroes turn with hardly any pre-thought whatsoever caused quite a lively debate!), so if the second edition is playable out of the box, it would take some of the pressure off me, and I might be able to play as one of the heroes for a change.
Being a sucker for little men in twisty corridors, I'm watching this one with some interest..
