May I remind everyone that Dungeons and Dragons was a *fair ride*. :D
I'd spent a year or so defending and explaining D&D to friends and relatives and then WHAM people suddenly think that I'm talking about the cartoon.
In one games group it was a running joke to look around and say "Dungeon Master? ... He's gone."
Frickin Yoda rip-off!
I did guiltily check it out a few times, just to see if there were any in-game references.
As an introduction to the game franchise it struck me as very strange that some of the character classes were from Unearthed Arcana - so this was AD&D plus supplements. Acrobat, cavalier ... TSR was trying plug the extra rules from the advanced game to pre-gaming age audience. Much strangeness.
My therapy is ongoing - the new D&D movies will go without mention. ;)
All this aside, I'm sure I'd probably really enjoy them now.
