The wood on all these was painted by dry brushing successively lighter shades of brown over a black under coat
eg: Scorched brown, Bestial Brown,  Snake Bite Leather and then Bubonic Brown. The trick is to dry brush across the grain of the wood to make sure you pick up all the high points.
