I dunno, bad RPGs have always been bad and there are still ones just as bad around today. Sad thing is companies like Square Enix will carry on banging out shitty, poorly written games and their fanboys will continue to buy them and think they are 'teh bestest thing eva!' how many Final Fanwankery games are their now?
