The key to identification is that the US vehicles tended to have the solid or broken white ring around the star where other commonwealth didn't.

The Americans used a later vesion of the carrier called a T16, it was pretty much the same as the larger Winsor version of the universal.
Winsor and T16 can be easily spotted as they are longer and have 2 full bogies with two wheels, the universal has one full bogey and the smaller single wheel one.
All in all though, the Americans didn't use the T16 in any great numbers, they weren't particularly good and the ones they did get tended to be cast offs from commonwealth units who got hold of the later Winsors.
