This is all sounding really gritty, grafitti, demarkation zones. In fact it reminds me of why I shied away from Twilight:2000 because it was almost too close to home (I was a sensitive soul, a psychological victim of the When the Wind Blows cold war ;) )
Could there be an atomic twist which links with the magic? Quantum reality schisms x-gene wakenings ? Or has magic always been here - the last increase came during the witch trials, etc.?
