I still think that series 2 of the original trek was the best. Some TNG episodes are classics as are the dominion war era DS9 shows. Voyager was pretty good too.

I'll put a second good word in for Andromeda, though I did stop watching it later on, the early shows were awesome though.

My vote for awesome sci-fi that people have to see is Farscape, takes a while to get into it but once you know who all the characters are and a bit about them the show becomes awesome.
