Heyo,
I was digin through some of my old Space crusade stuff and found this. When i use to play space crusade as a teen, we felt that the dice were too random and that perhaps something based on player skill would be better, not only because it would be something that you could improve with practice, but also, nerves would play a part when in a bad situation and you just have to make that shot!
Heres an idea i came up with, the coin flick. A coin is placed in the red circle at the bottom of the template, half hanging off, and you have to tap, or flick the coin with the right amount of force to get it to slide into the right region. If you did, the defending miniature lost one life point.
To represent increasing difficulty in hitting a distant target, the regions are divided into point blank (melee), short (1-5 squares away), medium (6-10), etc there are also 2 tiny insta kills zones that instantly kill dreadnaughts and commanders. If the coin fell off the edge of the template it counted as a miss.
What do you guys think?
edit: i cant remember how i factored in the extra power of multiple dice.
