As I've said before the Fighting Fantasy books are one of great obsessions (along with Miniatures, The works of JRR Tolkien, HP Lovecraft, old computer games and a few other thing besides)

I have all save for 1 of the 59 original game books (I'm missing Legend of Zargor), plus I have a few of the Advanced Fighting Fantasy books (AFF, Out of the Pit, Titan, The Riddling Reaver and Black sand) , I have the rare Clash-of-Princes 2 player books, books 1,2 & 4 of Steve Jackson's Sorcery!, The Trolltooth Wars Novel, The Warlock of Firetop-Mountain Board Game, The Deathtrap Dungeon computer game, I've also picked up a few of the new books published by Wizards Books and a few years back now, Me and my co-founder of this site Robertthedamned got to meet and have a brief chat with Ian Livingstone himself and I got my 1 st edition DeathTrap Dungeon book signed!

As for LoneWolf, I never really got into the LoneWolf books, but I think I have a few of them kicking round on my shelves somewhere and I own the 'Giak Attack' set of LoneWolf Miniatures that Citadel made under license in the 80's

"Giaks" - Do you think the series was trying to be original by not having orcs or goblins?   What are the figures like?

Very impressed at the signed copy of Deathtrap Dungeon!  I met them once (must have been [Edit] 1985 in Games Workshop) and I think I got Ian Livingstone to sign The Tasks of Tantallon (puzzle book) which he did under protest as it was Steve Jackson's book (who happily signed seeing that he had just rid me of £11 something for book which didn't even have the answers in, pfft). At the time, it was definitely the closest experience I'd had to meeting royalty. :)  
What's the story behind Wizard books - do you think Livingstone and Jackson retained the rights to their books?  That would explain the difference in the title lists between Wizard and Penguin.

I have a copy of Legend of Zagor - it seems to be tied in with one of the board games (but not the original Warlock of Firetop Mountain board game which I drool over the online photos of and am very very jealous).  Does this mean I've sealed my fate because I now stand between you and a complete collection?

I have quite a few repeats in my collection, but some big gaps as well, especially with the later titles.

Now you've got me wanting to write scenarios for AFF. ;D  ... which is just sick and wrong and you know it!

The Giak Attack miniatures are alright, Sir Pelethor and his steed are a little small by todays standards, but the Giaks make for nice goblin-type creatures and I have plans to the Gorgaz in a retro-style Lizardman warband.

I'm not really sure about why exactly Wizards Books did what they did when they published the new FF series. I think it may have been because some authors or illustrators didn't give permission for their work to be  re-published

Wikipedia (which seems to have already supplanted the great Encyclopaedia Galactica as the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom) has this to say:
In 2002, Wizard Books bought the rights to the Fighting Fantasy series and has put many of the original titles back into print, making the controversial decision to change the order of the books in order to fit their reduced line-up (initially only the gamebooks by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone were published) and to incorporate the Sorcery! miniseries into the core series. The original cover art has also been replaced. The Wizard editions have also been criticized for the extensive errors in the rule section of the reprints. Copying and pasting from Firetop Mountain has introduced errors into the rules, in most cases affecting the rules for Provisions and Potions. These problems have continued in the more recent re-releases as number 24, Talisman of Death, also has these errors.

My collection still has it gaps by I'm not impatient about getting them filled, so your safe (for now)

AFF is quite a fun system for pick-up-and-play-ness but a little too simple to do much with, I've read that The Legend of Zagor board game combined the FF rules with a dungeon crawling aspect, which would make for a good system if it could be expanded using the AFF system (but I think I'd better stick to re-working one system at a time)

Those Giaks and Gorgaz look mighty fine - a really nice set.  I forget which one made a lot of the figures - was it Dever or Chalk? A legend in his time. :)

I've just been reading the articles in the back of Warlock of Firetop Mountain 25th Anniversary Edition (arrived this week! hurrah!) and the explanation of the re-releases pretty much follows the wikipedia quote above.  I'm going to post a scan of the map in the back in new thread because I think it deserves it. ;)
