I've recently been browsing about on the McAusland Studios website http://mcauslandstudios.com/main.htm - really just soaking up the art - fantasy, sci-fi and assorted stuff.
Mr. McAusland is currently developing a post-apocalyptic RPG. Mutant Epoch! http://www.outlandarts.com/mutantepoch.htm I know that some of the members here are suckers for a good post-apoc. setting. This one is very much, the very far future, allowing the imagination to go very wild with regards to society and creatures (as opposed to near future settings - where the hard rain causes a mild depression, whilst scrubbing the gas masks in the bomb shelter...). Now, I have to let it be known that I own what has to be the worst edition of Gamma World, so I'm always a bit hesitant with "mutie" settings. But we live in a brave new age ... Judging by the art for the game, there's just enough proper guns and strange tech to give old Necromunda a run for it's money.* It seems to be very much a pen n paper RPG and the black and white art calls to the old-school part of me (do I have any other parts). * guns ... mmm ... All I know so far is what I've read from bits of downloads and browsed of the art. There's a hint of old D&D in here. Players can assemble a party of "Excavators" who go on quests to salvage technology from inhospitable terrain (that's just one of many hooks). Some of the monsters look like they are from a bestiary of b-movies, but better (excuse the alliteration *grin*). Mutant Bestiary: http://www.outlandarts.com/TME-mutant-beastiary-1-art.htm Ah, modern women... I have no idea as yet, whether or not the game adapts well to minis. The game mechanics sound reassuring - the Outland Hub systems boasts a percentile based system with the use of all poly dice for damage (which reminds me a bit of Chaosm/Cthullhu/Runquest.) ... I'll try to find out more on this. The blog is good for up to date news and new art http://themutantepoch.blogspot.com/ Desktops: Preview PDF: http://www.outlandarts.com/TME-download-preview.htm *Is most intrigued* |

Looks good!
I've just spent the last hour collecting some of the artwork!

~The ravings of a single mad Goblin is bad enough, but such a power-hungry, malice-filled creature as Mortis can never hope to be understood~ |
Looks really good :)
Considering what wotc are doing with Gammaworld, I can say right away that Id rather buy this product than fall into the scheme theyve concocted with good ol GW *sadface* (Sorry for disappearing, but Ive had tons to do with my rpcampaign *hurrahs*. Mr Babble, the new floorplanmaterial looks awesome, I really hope business is booming :) ) |
[slight edit, sorry]
Believe me, Fenryz, when I say I believe I already own the worst edition of Gamma World, they couldn't possibly make it much worse! (Thanks for asking. Considering the minute amount of "products" I have, sales are going well, a few a day at least, thanks to the mighty RPGNow/Drivethru (etc.) sites - definitely a niche, or perhaps just cheap ;) I reckon that any real profit must come from having a large range. It's lots of fun - I heartily recommend trying to sell *anything* in PDF on there - adventure hooks for 65 cents, you name it, it's out there and I think many hobbyists don't mind handing over small change, when everything else is so hugely priced). Sample map from Mutant Epoch! I'm sure author/illustrator won't mind me drawing attention to the fact that this goody can be found in his downloadable Media Pack for publicity (which I've now lost the link to ... damnit!) |
Pretty much the first roleplaying game I came into contact with was a postapocalyptic one. Its called Mutant, pretty much a swedish version of GW.
I guess I got imprinted with the wasteland bug back then, its still close to my heart :) Im looking forward to seeing more of this game, heres hoping they dont run into any snags during production. |
