Warhammer 40K Help! Please?!?!

Esperical
Hello! I'm looking to getting into the whole Warhammer 40,000 universe and start playing the minigame version. I am not totally new to the whole concept (I have Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, Dawn of War: Soulstorm, and Space Marines for the PS3), and I have been on YouTube and Google searching up history, races, information, etc; still I am finding the game hard to understand. I know it is complicated, and unfortunately there aren't many people that play it in my area, or that are into minigaming in general. I don't have a lot of money, and am thinking of playing Ultramarines (I know they are super strict on the Codex since they kinda wrote it. Here are the following things I have setbacks on:

-Most YouTube videos are catered to people whom already play the game.
-Most searches on the internet are for current players.
-Most beginner videos are hard to understand, and I have yet to grasp how this game is actually played.
-I am having trouble finding cheap essentials (rulebooks, codexes, etc.)

I just ordered an Ultramarine tactical squad, and I'm hoping this community could help a new guy like me out. I just wanna learn the basics so I can improve. I'm generally a quick learner. I have blast templates and flame templates already. If you all could help me out that would be awesome!

Quests-of-legend
Can't really help wth rules, as Games-Workshop change them every 5 minutes.

But I will say if you have little money then anything Warhammer or Games-Workshop is not the best route to take.

i think Q-o-L is right GW isn't the best way to go, certainly not the cheapest way to go. don't get me wrong i think everyone (certainly player i know) cut-there-teeth with GW. BUT that was when GW gave a crap about us. but if you really wanted to start there then
marine armies are the easy way in & you can buy what you need 2nd hand from ebay,
guard armies are BIG and can be tank heavy but they can be proxy models which can be cheaper (i'm working on my 3rd guard army),
orks are big armies and fun but offer lots for the modelmaker/converter in you,
necrons easy to paint,
eldar/dark eldar are a painters model,
tau are an afterthought,
sisters-o-battle are way overpriced even WG did give a crap but i have found some proxy models for them.

if you need any more help just ask

G

i did have a post on this forum with a list for other proxy models compenies i could lynk it to you from  here

I think that proxy model companies would be OK, or at least a route to look at. I did get my first squad fully painted and off Ebay for a little more than half the actual price on GW. As for the money, I plan on getting a job soon, and considering I'm only 17 and don't really have bills to pay... well.... hobbies won't be killing me as much as my soon-to-be gaming counterparts. Sisters Of Battle have never really been super appealing to me. I used to play guard on the computer games, but they aren't as appealing to me after researching a bit here. I'm more of an infantry guided person, but I want firepower. Plus getting into it, something easy-to-play. So, marines would be a good way in. I plan Ultramarines because they are the most strict with the Codex than the other chapters, forcing me to learn it better when I get one (and the rule book of course). Plus they look cool :P That is always a plus. I'm currently eyeing some models on Ebay (I found some unpainted and in-the-box sealed drop pods which are between $20-$30, new is $40), and I need an HQ of some sort. I'm not going to worry about terrain right now, because I can make a lot of that. I do have some modeling material left over from some of my previous model making, so that will help cut down those cost. I'm glad people actually aren't snobby and are willing to help me get into this! Thanks you!
