Lumber mate I share your misery, GW is a bit of a piss take sometimes but here's how I get around it....

Rules:
I usually play with the same gaming group of four regular opponents, we all served in the army together and have been playing together for years. Thus if we want a bit of old school love we crack out 2nd Ed or even RT for a whirl. And if we're gonna use sixth Ed then if one of our number wants to tweak his army to fit in with the character but not necessarily the current ruleset then we'll usually allow it as long as it's not an obvious thrust for glory/imbalance. For example my iron warriors using an extra heavy support choice at the cost of a fast attack slot is fine as it is unlikely to drastically shatter the gaming balance.

Also I go on forums like these and EasternFringe to chat with like minded old school vets so we can re-live old 40k glory!!

Models, yeah GW is pretty expensive, oh fine they are very expensive....however I don't blow my cash on recreational drugs, gambling, smoking, or excessive drinking (maybe some, but at army prices it's cheap) so these models are my indulgence and I love painting them and gaming with them so the outlay seems appear less in the long run. Don't get me wrong many moons ago I used to work at GW so I know how much the models cost to make, and I feel a bit of sick in my mouth as I hand over my hard earned forty five quid for a toy tank....but like I say it's my one vice. Also I force family and friends to buy me 40k for Xmas and birthdays to alleviate the burden.

I hope this makes you feel less bad about the hobby and makes you get your night lords back out and go cut down some imperial filth!

Having friends who never collected anything for long enough to actually play games, or who were never dedicated enough to the idea of an army to get one to a table.

Fads never last long though.

I play Orks, but I can't see me adding anything to my army, I would love some Mega Nobz but I'm not paying GW prices. To me Mega Nobz are ork terminators right? so why are 5 Mega Nobz 3 times the price of terminators!

my disillusion came slowly over years & it was not just price hikes or systems abandoned or models not updated for 20 years

Hi Guys
It was when i was in the army that i got into wargaming and playing 40k 2nd ed. At the time in the 90,s i used to spend about £150 a month on the game. When i'm in i'm in sort of guy.  When i left the army (2000) i had many armies but no time to game. I then just started to buy models i liked rather than for one army or another.

My gaming days were nearly dead until i met Mortis who got me gaming again. Who moved in with me when he came under hard times. Slowly his rants about GW set in and i realised he was right about GW.

He showed me other alternataves to GW products that i liked. So i surpose this is when GW started to die for me. It has been a slow death.

For big battles i like modern stuff but for skermishes i like fantasy. 7th ed was my last box set i bought.

Happy gaming guys Mark

Love to be able to get you into zombie games, Mark. I think you'd relish the chance to relive your army days with a developing character ;D (Maybe we skip the tank and sheep parts of your army days?)
