so,
Super Dungeon Explore has been gaining a following at Triple Helix and i must admit, it's rather fun!
SDEs popularity, combined with Gav being off work 'till the 4th means it's project time!
and so i'm making myself a 3D SDE board (i know Nurgle_boy is doing something similar!) :D
i'll start with a couplea images of figures from the game itself; small plastic kits with plenty of peices and plenty of flashing :(
click for bigger
Gougers; basic grunts to throw at the heroes!
click for bigger
Ironscales; stop heroes in their tracks :D
click for ... you get the drill!
Spawn Points; each one pumps out monsters every turn; Kobold Spawners come in pairs, hence the matching paintjobs :)
anyway, on my first day off i visited Charltons, the local wood shop to get me some supplies.. to find they didn't cut to size <_<
so i travelled to Frome and visited several shops to get the same response :(
however, Tip-a-dels not only sold me a 8'x4' for £14, they cut it into 12.5" squares for a tenner :D
a gurt stack of wood :D
i had them cut slightly larger than the SDE boards; this should allow a nice border around the outside :)
from here, i cut some corkboard to make the tiles and dug out some plaster Hirst Arts bricks to build me some walls :)
D'awwww! ain't she cute!
next up i scared across my measured lines. i tried using a sharp knife to cut smooth grooves, but i didn't like the effect :P
so i scored 'em with a screwdriver to get a great shattered slab effect :D
as i played around with the wall sections, i decided to style this section as a cell block, long ago abandoned and left in ruin..
i assembled the ruins and added sand / gravel to pad the board out :)
an intact cell; i'm sculpting a wee padlock to go onto the handle :)
Two ruined cells...
the final cell is having a small Easter Egg modelled on...
a certain plumbers outfit will be hanging from the wall :D (you may have spotted a skull at the base of the wall in the previous shot!
SDE has a great retro video game feel to it and the official tiles feature a couple of small easter eggs :) so i'll be adding one to each section :D
and finally, the manhole in the centre of the board :)
the whole section is slightly lower to give the feeling that they simply hose out the cells!
so, once the sculpting work is dry i'll be sealing the gravel and then undercoating :)
tomorrow i'll head into Bath to see if i can find some 12" square cork board; the pieces i have are only 11"x10" :P
thanks for looking!
