Steve Buddle - new 54mm range coming (apparently)

I've had sight of an email Steve sent to a friend on mine, saying that he's about to wind up Spyglass Miniatures as it's not been doing well financially.  However, he also said that he was planning on starting a new venture to produce 54mm fantasy models... with the possibility of 54mm scifi models on the horizon.

Watch this space!

(for those who don't know, Steve was responsible for two models in the Inquisitor range: Jena Orechiel and the Judge - two of the nicest models in the range)

agh that's sad that spyglass isn't doing so well. On the plus side more 54mm models would be awesome.

I thought Steve stopped doing Spyglass a few years back (not long after I last saw him in Cornwall) it's a shame he's talented guy

Re: Steve Buddle - new 54mm range coming (apparently)

He stopped and the re-started again in 2007 with a number of new sculpts, marketed mostly via - IIRC - Hasslefree.

I think he's had some health issues that have made it hard for him to focus on work.  Anyway: new sculpts are on the horizon!  The Conclave got an exclusive sneak-peak of his latest resin cast (don't get too excited, it was only a boot - but it was a very nice boot!).

Re: Steve Buddle - new 54mm range coming (apparently)

From Steve Buddle's website:

Spyglass Miniatures has now closed permanently. If you click on 'closing sale' on the menu you can read about my reasoning behind this. The sale, however, has now passed. If you're desperate for a Spyglass fix, click on 'Where to Buy' to see the retailers I have worked with. Although I am no longer supplying them, they may have old stocks still available.

I will be starting a new company early in 2009. A fresh start so to speak, producing mostly 54mm figures in resin. I will be making available a few of the best selling Spyglass figures remastered in resin too (I've got the first samples of these and they look beautiful. Seriously, they look the best they ever have). A few people have wondered why I am starting completely anew rather than just re-structuring Spyglass. I suppose there's no perfect answer to that and I could have. But, somehow in my heart, I just felt I needed to start over and this just feels right.

So, all it leaves me to do is to thank all of you for your custom over the years, especially those of you who would come back release after release to buy my figures, sometimes having weathered the time between releases. There have been many highs and lows over Spyglass' five and a half years and I think the highs made it worth the lows.

Well, it's the end of Spyglass but not the end of me. I'm working away at new figures for my new startup and am feeling optimistic.

I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with... E.

Steve's giving one of his brand new sculpts as a prize to the Conclave Hobby Competition (deadline March 09!).
