A coule of days ago me, Mort and some of his friends played a huge game of space crusade with the tyranid attack board included . after the game I was talking about making a campaign system for it ( even though there is already one in the book(but I didn't like that one so I made a more necromundary system).
Instead of having ranks and hounor badges you now have experience. Experience is equal to the amount of victory points each marine (eldar, chaos marine, tau etc) has gained in each of the games he has played in and as always experience means advances!!. The way to win a campaign is to be the first to get their taskforces total exp to a number (eg 1000) specfied by the GM/alien player.
Advancement
0-10-starting for every one
11-20
21-30
31-40
etc.
Every time a model goes up a level he rolls on the advancement table-
D12 Advance
1 +1 move
2-5 +1 white dice in close combat (if you roll on this advancement again swap out the white dice for a red dice in
close combat
6-9 +1 white dice when shooting (if you roll on this advancement again swap out the white dice for a red dice
when shooting)
10-11 +1 white dice to your armour value (if you roll on this advancement again swap out the white dice for a red
dice on your armour value)
12 new skill
D6 Skill
1 crack shot- re-roll one dice when shooting.
2 Hard as nails- re roll one dice when negating damage in close combat.
3 Disarm- Opponent rols one less dice in combat for the rest of game (to a minimum of 1).
4 Knockback-if you win a combat and have not killed your opponent then you may move it back one
square and follow up (not making an attack).
5 Skilled comander- you nay use tqwo order cards a turn.
6 Techie- May use one 1 use equipment card twice a game.

I can see already that this going to quickly over power troops, unless a player is really, really unlucky this system almost guarantees advancement for any surviving troop.
Under your system you can advance after killing: 1 Android or/ 2 Chaos Marines or/ 3 and a bit Orks or/ 5 Gretchin or/ less than half a dreadnought! we're talking the content of a medium sized room here Space Crusade works on a system very low numbers. With in 4 games you'll have basic Marines capable of punching a Dreadnought to death or surviving a maximum roll hit from a conversion beam! (Anyone who thinks this is awesome and/or accurate to the 40k background should just quit the forum now, your not welcome here) While a agree the Honour Badge system is not ideal and is going to need to some work to get it to run smoothly for our campaign, I'm not ready to scrap it quite yet. Interestingly Sean Patten (the guy behind Necromundicon) has written a very extensive (and IMHO needlessly complicated ruleset) based around SpaceCrusade, which does include a Necromunda-like campaign system. Maybe we could adapt it. You can find Sean Patten's rules Here

I forgot to add that exp is equal to the number of victory points each marine has divided by 4 rounding down.
and i thnk I need to increase the level up stages to 0-25 26-45 46-65 66-85 86-95 96-107 etc Does this help? -][- Dreamer

As we discussed during Tuesday's game, I don't think a Necromunda style campaign system is quite what we need for the Space Crusade campaign.
The original game is about squads of troops carrying out dangerous missions on board Space Hulks and being rewarded for the degree they succeed at the given mission (if anyone comes back). My idea is to use the original point-score system, but rather than rewarding honor badges ect at the end of each mission, allow players to 'spend' their points on additional troops and equipment (reflecting the idea of their superiors rewarding them for their performance in the field of battle) Casualties will not be automatically replaced between games and points will need to be spent to replace them. In the case of 100% fatalities or the death of a leader the player will start again with a new squad. Initial thoughts on the prices (based on the 5-man-squad based games we've been playing recently) Bolter Marine 50 points Heavy Weapon Marine 60 points Equipment Card 30 points Order Card 25 points of course we'll need to work out the costs for the other playable troop types and races too talking of which ... Proposed playable armies/races ~ SpaceMarines (regular) - the 3 chapters from the game box, plus Dark Angles, SpaceWolves and any other chapters people want to play, different equipment available to each chapter ~ SpaceMarine Terminators - all chapters as above ~ SpaceMarine Scouts - all chapters as above ~ Legion of the Damned SpaceMarines - same as regular marines, but do not deploy from docking claw and different equipment and order cards, maybe some kind of special abilities for order cards too ~ Chaos SpaceMarines (as currently House-ruled) ~ Eldar ~ Orkz ~ Sisters of Battle - working in a similar way to regular marines, different order cards and equipment ~ Tau (need play-testing) ~ Squats (maybe) ~ Grey Knight Terminators (maybe)

I know you're only asking that so I'll repeat the following: Your troops run around a SpaceHulk, killing everything they see and earning points which can be spent on more troops and better equipment so they can more effectively run around and kill everything they see in subsequent missions happy now Bert?

Might also be cool if you can buy 'desposable' equipment with score points such as frag grenades (a la the Chaos Gate PC game which was very like spacecrusade). Probably not weapon upgrades or else we'll end up with devistator squads, but nades and chainswords and suchlike might not be to overpowered.
I've got a few ideas for command cards and such for spacewolves but I want to re-read the codexes to make sure they all make sense. Quite tempted to do some Imperial Fists actually....which is weird. |

Aw come on, that would be pretty awesome! I've posted some ideas for equipment order and equipment cards for chaos teams on here, I'm keen to see whether they seem appropriate. |

Sorry i thought you were referring to the original points system on the back of the space crusade mission book (red lights flashing everywhere but this has jogged my memory(what's left of it it's mostly filed up with random facts about 40k and such like)). Vey helpful.

well we can run a quick playtest of the system this evening, but we still need to figure out values for ... well .... pretty much everything that isn't a regular SpaceMarine!
also: I've written rules for Hormagaunts and Termagants now, but I'm going to need time to print off the new blips, so I may not have them ready for tonight .... oh and also I don't have any Hormagaunt or Termagant models put together - maybe we could borrow some? I think the store has a copy of Battle For McCragg - Ask Steve when you see him

at the moment no one else is playing anything else but a regular space marine apart from me but i think we should put chaos space marine prices up 5 over space marine prices taking in to account the fact that a chaos marine is sightly harder to find than a normal marine and you need to coerce a chaos marine into going except if there is treasure involved)). I will ask Steve about McCragg. if e run through a demo to day then i think over Christmas i can work out more prices and stuff like that.

Chaos and Imperial SpaceMarines will cost exactly the same amount, rules wise there is no difference between them. The only difference between them will be what Equipment and Order Cards are available to them, but this is the same kind of difference as any given Imperial Chapter would have from another.
Playtests of Termagants and Hormagaunts are going well; they seem pretty balanced and make a nice addition to the game Stats as follows: Termagants Move:8 Armour Value:1 Firing: 2W Hand to Hand: 2W Points: 5 (Profile above is for ‘standard’ Termagant armed with Fleshborer, later I may add extra rules for Spinefist, Spike-Rifle, Devourer and Strangeweb carrying variants) Hormagaunts Move:8 Armour Value:1 Firing: - Hand to Hand: 1W 1R Points: 5 Reference Cards and Blips to follow shortly!
