I said in the Trowbridge League topic that I wanted to play a Norse team..........WELL HERE THEY ARE!!!!!!(mostly........will explain)
As far as Warhammer is concerned I've very much followed the Norse/Viking route. My first Mordhiem warband was Middenhiemers and I'd always favoured the Space Wolves as chapter of choice in the Space Marine arguement, so as you can imagine I naturally gravitated to the Norse as my team. I also wanted them to have a decent Nordic name and after glancing up at my bookshelf to see a particular Manga book series there, I has an idea.
"Ragnarok........viking apocolypse..........yeah, we rock!..............HEY!..........how about We Ragna-Rock!!!"
[I know it's unbelievably lame.........but i don't care, I think it's funny.]
Unfortunately just after I made my choice and had bought the Games Workshop base Norse team set, I sat down and looked at the living rulebooks rather than just the standard original.
Up until Living Rulebook 4 (revised), the Norse had Lineman, Throwers, Catchers and Blitzers......that cool...I can deal with that.....that's what I got the models to make..... But Living Rulebook 5 comes along and *WTF??*, now there are Lineman, Throwers, Runners, Berserkers, Ulfwerener and a Snow Troll!!!......GREAT!......so now I have only the Lineman, Throwers and Berserkers that i can use from the team I just bought and I've also got to find Runners, Ulfwerener and a Snow Troll!
Mortis suggested the Snow Troll from Heresy (Click Here)
I loved the look and the threatening stance of this model and the shaggy fur coat really looked good (and the fact that it looks like it was based on the Wampa from Empire Strikes Back may also have had something to do with it.........curse my geekness sometimes....)
I haven't actually ordered this one yet, but I will be soon. The reason I can afford to be a bit late on this one is because he is not in my starting team, but will be looking to buy him in later.
With the others.......after some days of relentless Google searches, I happened across Impact Miniatures.
I looked through there site and loved the stuff that they had here. It's for a similar 'Fantasy Football' game called Elfball and although there are some drastically different team and races to Blood Bowl, there was plenty of what I could use.......especially the sideline figures (or which I did buy a couple, will do short posts on them when they are too in another topic).
Elfball's Valkyrie Team gave me the Ulfwerener and the 'Targeted Impact range' gave me the Runners.
With the team's colour I choose red and blue simply because I looked like a cool combination, rather than trying to take on the colours of a real NFL team that they would appropriate to in the ream world.......cause at the end of the day........THEY'RE F***ING NORSE!!!!.......that and the blue is a rather Nordic colour.
The furs that they have padding again their armour I wanted to paint them as wolf fur and pelts rather than just non-descript fur, so they were given a base of Codex Grey, drybrushed with Fortress Grey and then given the Black Wash over the top.
I wanted to properly go old skool (because bad spelling is kewl) with the carrot top pure gingerness, so gave them a base of Vermin Brown and then drybrushed with Blazing Orange. I was also going to then wash over with Sepia Wash but after checking a few of them out, I thought they looked awesome as is and didn't need it.
And for all the armour, gave them a base of Tin Bitz before drybrushing patchily Boltgun Metal followed by Burning Gold for the accent areas.
So that's We Ragna-Rock! Hope you enjoyed reading about they're creation and conceptional musings that fill my addled brain. I've only got to flock their bases with Glade Grass and they are ready for the pitch. I've also included below a few other general pics I took of them all together (btw, I know the Runners aren't in the group short at the beginning of this post, the reason they aren't in there is because............well........I forgot to put them in it to be honest )
