Yes I can believe this rumor ... it makes sense both from a real life economic point of view and from GW's distorted point of view too

fact is resin is cheaper than metal and the cost of metal has gone up in recent years and this means GW pay less for the materials meaning higher profits. I doubt they will pass this saving on to customers and lower the prices, as we've seen from forge world GW sell resin like it's some kind of gold that only be found on mars

So the prices will probably go up again and GW will try and justify it saying it's higher quality (which it won't be)
small models will shatter rather than bend when dropped meaning the clumsy kids of GWs current core market will buy more miniatures

yes I'd like to think the resin switch will mean lower prices but I think we all know it won't

Remember that Citadel plastics where originally supposed to be a cheaper alternative to metals, but these days Citadel Plastics cost just as much as Citadel Metals ... and it's nothing do with Citadel plastics being high quality, Mantic and Perry Miniatures have proved high quality plastics can be done for cheaper

Meanwhile companies like Mantic, Spartan, Grendal, Spyglass and others will produce their resins at a more reasonable prices ...
So people of The Lost and the Damned our aim remains as ever ... reminding people there are alternatives and given time GW will not have such a monopoly over hobbyists and may even be forced to lower their prices

Resin products from other manufacturers are more expensive than metal direct comparisons, due to the extra time it takes to cast the figures. So GW will be raising prices, the base material is cheaper but it costs more to use, that is unless GW do something revolutionary.

Resin should lead to sharper miniatures so long as they're moulded in the correct material. Look at companies like Spyglass, Hasslefree or studio miniatures who offer both resin and metal versions of certain figures, the resin versions always look better and are more expensive.

It will however lower GW's overheads for shipping, as a big box of resin miniatures is cheaper to get to a store than the same miniatures in metal. Doubt customers will see this saving though.

So what's the problem?


It's all in the GW schedule:
1. Raise the price;  
2. Make some horrible miniatures;
3. Make new codices / army book;
4. Make some horrible miniatures;
5. Make a new game edition;
6. Remove a specialist game;
7. Go to 1.;

Nowadays we're at the 3rd point, but don't worry in 2012 when "The Hobbit" will be on the screen of our cinemas, we will be at the GW 5th point: "The Hobbit - the wargame"

This is all very very likely and as March said Gw have a set list of to do.  They may taken our nice weighted metal minatures but they will never take our souls (or if you have no soul your dignity.  If they take our secialist games we will carry on playing them.  if they raise prices ,yes we will probably keep buying them but that is not the point.  The world will change but as wargamers one and all we will adapt and come out on top of this adversary. We will not give up hope.  Thank you.

When i first started this adiction, i spent about £50 a week for about a year. Then i met the ex and only spent about £400 a year. now im down to about £100 after about 16years of wargaming. most of my things i have been buying from GW have been books and codexs.

Since meeting mortis iv spent £60 to £70 per year on alternative models loosing GW this much per year.

Spread the news guys, shop around.

still no official statement from GW so all this "it's fact! i been told by GW employee!" is bullshit.

it's likely*, as has been in development for a long time (again, solid fact) and there are resins usable with centrifugal spin moulds (about a four second work time) but it's exceptionally difficult to get right.

with Resins, its worth noting that smaller / thinner components take alot longer to set fully and can be quite brittle, so it will be interesting as to (if) GW Resin Quality or if they'll retain smaller components in metal.

*or maybe these things aren't big sellers so are on hold to see if metal prices drop

It should be pointed out that wasn't some 'The Lastest Codex' SpaceMarine collecting store employee, this was a non-hobbyist who worked in the factory  and let it slip because of a misunderstanding about a FW product.

It'd mean a lot of re-moulding, if they can get the spincast resin right they could continue with their current moulds. If they decided to do hybrid material models then they'd have to totally re-make the mould masters, which is a lot of work considering the size of the range.

I'm just worried about the specialist games, not that any of the SG communities haven't been fending for themselves for a long time but to loose the core models would really suck and discourage new players.
