It's not often I post here in the Sci-Fi section, but here's some minis I've been working on recently ...
Some time last year at one of
Triple Helix Wargames's brilliant 'bring and buy' days I picked up a quite large bag of old space marine bits with an eye to expanding my Space Crusade miniatures with a few extra squads to allow additional chapters to be played - the bag had a lot of Space Crusade Marines in it and the very similar 40k 2nd edition boxed game Space Marines all in various states of damage and bad painting. The plan was to strip, repair, restore and re-paint the marines as Squads of Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Iron Hands, Blood Drinker, Flesh Tearers, Silver Skulls ... and so on, until I had a squad for each chapter that's symbol appears on the 'Command Centre' floor piece
Anyway - it seems I've crusaded my way off topic here - amongst the Space Crusade and 2nd Edition 40k Marine parts were some RTB1 Space Marines, some were in the regular 'bone' plastic, but others were in green plastic (which I'd never seen before). They were in a pretty sorry state, some thickly painted, others covered in polystyrene-cement and glued together in strange ways, but there where quite a few of them so I figured I could probably take all the least damaged miniatures plus a few loose bits and restore a few of them to their former glory.
And last week I finally got round to doing it and the result (so far) is the Squad you see in the picture before my ramblings. I decided to make the squad usable in Space Crusade since it's about the only game I play which you can use Space Marines in (and also the only one I can think of where you just need the 1 squad). Note the Marine on the right hand side of the picture which I converted to hold a spare Space Crusade Auto-cannon/Assault-cannon using a pair of arms which had badly mangled hands. The Commander (on the far right) has a 2nd edition power-fist (I couldn't find an RTB1 Power-arm in good enough condition to use) and a Bolt Pistol - I might replace the boltpistol with a newer one though because the RTB1 Boltpistol looks very small and pathetic (especially next to the huge Power-glove on his other hand).
I will probably paint the squad as Crimson Fists in homage to the classic Rogue Trader rulebook, but the green plastic makes me think of Dark Angels too, so I'm not sure which to go for
