WHATS THE MODEL?

WHATS THE THINKING THEN?
very few GW models nowdays stir me as much as this one. I bought it as an experiment into rough rider alternatives and was very pleased i did.
firstly, its on three sprues. two identical and one is a "leader" sprue. the two normal sprues have two horses, two riders, heads, pouches and weapons. the leader sprue has one horse and rider, a nice cloak, weapons and lots of other bits.
as a fantasy model i cant really comment because i dont play it but as a rough rider "counts as" its ideal. perfect. magnificent.
why? well, the cadian torso's fit perfectly onto the empire legs. drop on a las-pistol and a chainsword and "bobs yer uncle"
the heads are a fair mix too- only one is a perfect IG swop out head but i plan to make my command squad with carapace armour using the gunner from the valkyrie and the 'coal scuttle' helmets of the outriders would fit them quite nice.
the best thing by far is the "nock gun" which can be used with cadian troops with no trouble. cut away the las rifle and right hand from the standard guardsman and simply glue the nock gun in. and guess what? the cadian left arms fit fine too.
wow... designers on the ball or what?
the leaders coat holding a power sword is pure commisar conversion material, especially as the sword has some weird bits on that make it look a bit "power weapon-y"
added to the fact you get 10 RR for £24 plus a couple of squads of veterans with a nifty looking "counts as shotgun". there is even a small "nock-pistol" which might make a nice conversion piece.
6 GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS MODEL:
1. bitz. lots of em.
2. inter-compatability with cadian and new catachan command squad
3. pretty awesome value for money for GW
4. nice looking model full of character
5. nice mold and well planned sprues
6. fit is pretty good
6 SHIT THINGS ABOUT THIS MODEL
1. sculpting on the rump is a bit shonky
2. square cavalry bases :-(
3. not fully straightforward to make "hunting lances" i didn't bother

LONG STORY SHORT...
as a play project, this kit is lots of fun. as a Rough Rider proxy its awesome. for GW its mind blowing value for money. if you want rough riders you would literally BE A MUG not to use this kit.
