PROJECT: The Choir Psykana

I know Mortis hates these guys as sculpts, but they really were quite nice to paint. I am not used to metal models so I made a few mistakes and errors but on the whole I am well chuffed with them.

I decided to use the Cadian Commander as the Overseer. the Overseer is a non-psyker character who hangs with the guys, watching them throw MIND BULLETS at fools who don't listen when the Emperor tells them WHAT TIME IT IS. but when they get eaten by warp-daemons he straight chops their heads off.

sweet.

The Cadian Commander was designed at the same time as the Psykers (2003 I think??) so has many design cues to them, making him a nice choice for the Overseer. Shame about the limited number of poses...

I only really got these as I had a Voucher of a friend for Christmas. They actually work out quite cheap as a Unit- the three psykers are £8 is, the Commander is £6 for some reason, and I already had a solitary Psyker I have painted before (the one on the left that looks different- couldnt remember how I got him that patina)

I dont know how many times I will ise them in games, but i think they would look good on the table.

Nice work on these

Cadian Commander fits in really well and makes for a great Overseer

It's not the sculpts I hate, the sculpting work is just (even if the design is a little boring) what I don't like about these is the blatant laziness of their production - all 3 of them are the same frikking model with minor changes made. Now if this was 1 model with different options for arms and head (like Heresy and Hasslefree do) then this would be acceptable - but no, these are separate one piece models. So at the beginning of the design process there was an opportunity for these to be 3 different and distinct models with different poses, different faces, clothes, equipment and so on - but instead some one has sculpted the 1 model, had it cast off a few times and then sculpted a bandage over it eyes on 1, attached a pistol to another and re-sculpted the arm to be holding his head on the final one (there are some other minor differences too). And it's not even as if these are bulk troops were this wouldn't matter so much

Anyway nice painting work one these, keep it up!

your right, and when your right your right. I cant remember the 4th ed rules for them but there is no ned for them to be SO alike... there are actually TWO body types- the coat open, opposite-day sash and the coat closed one. the closed coat has the headache stance and the force-hand one. there must have been an actual descision to make them virtually one guy in three slightly different poses, except one guy who lives in Opposite Day. I can only assume there was a HELL of a time issue and only minor cosmetic changes to make them different.

the main annoyance for me is that you ideally need 'em in 10s and the minimum (as i recall) is 5... not bad for 3 sculpts <_<

they are nice models and a good paintjob too :)

That's a game legal squad right there... Four sanctioned psykers and an Overseer.

And thanks!!!

Re: PROJECT: The Choir Psykana

with a duplicate and a mini from another set .. while fitting as an overseer "do what i say or i shoot you inna head!" doesn't excuse GW's laziness; would it have hurt to make 1 more psyker and a bitchin' leader? :)
personal bugbear i suppose; i find duplicating minis jarring (except where it's appropriate) ...

without the extra psyker i gloomed off a friend you would need to buy two packs, which makes it poo. i also dont understand why three minis are £8 and one is £6.....

and mortis bitchin in 3...2...1....

the WORST culprit is the cadian officers... there are some with power fists, some with power swords... plasmas, bolt pistols... BUT they are all the same torso and head
