After months of fighting on the steppes and plains of Snakefish North the Imperial forces had finally fought its way into the outskirts of the urban settlement of Wroth. Vast featurless terrain covered in small rocks and pebbles made way for a grey maze of rubble, skeletons of long destroyed factories and burnt out Hab-Blocks.
In this enviroment the AF(R) had a very strong impact. They were used for small surgical assaults on key areas. Fuel and ammunition dumps, command centres and LZ's all suddenly found fast moving Chimeras and crack troops causing serious damage then pulling back as quickly as they came. While the main Imperial forces moved from block to block these raids (although a large scale, three day action invloving a hundred men and eight tanks can hardly be called a "raid") so weakend the enemy it looked like the city would be cleared in days. However momentum shifted over to the defenders and heavily fortified "islands" were created, with secure rat runs in between. The battle became much slower in pitch and where before Rondo's tactics of agressive assaulting gave way to Enochs more patient measured approach. The to commanders agreed Biakal would take overall control of the strategic factors while Van Xur would command the actual troops on the ground.
To do this Enoch secured himself "The Iron Duke", a Stomlord found badly damaged and abandonded by the main Guard army. it was brougt back to operational status after two weeks of backbreaking work by the motorpool staff and became a mobile command post and often as a linebreaker, leading final attacks on enemy positions.
The Iron Duke remains part of the AF(R) and is their only Baneblade chassis vehicle. it is unlikley to be used on the vast open battlefields of Snakefish North where it would be too slow and vulnerable for the AF(R)s needs, but remains as its formost Urban Command Vehicle.i had my heart set on a stormlord, and here it is. I am not a massive fan of the model, i think it tries to be too many varients in one box and in the end you miss out on the cool extras cos the sprues are full of varient cannons.
the fit is ok, but i DO NOT like the front wheel assembly or the track system. it went together ok and was fun to build but for the price i would have liked some more extras.
iv kept the new style stubbers and gunshields to put on future chimeras etc. as i think they will be used and see more.
some of you may be surprised it is in grey and not my usual AF(R) orange. well the problem is this- i am totally fucked. that paint is discontinued and i cant find it anywhere. i have about 1/3 of a can, and i need that to use on a final chimera or maybe hellhound. s for this i had to settle (and im not happy about it) for a battleship grey kind of color. in the end it looks OK but its been hard to tie it in with the rest of my force. i HAD planned to have a commander out of the top hatch and may still do, but i spent two hours painting a standard for him to hold and when i inked it it looked shit, so i binned that idea.
after i had to paint it grey i decided to make it an urban command vehicle which is why i have put so many aerials and dishes on. they are very vulnerable but look pretty good.
iv pretty much got the whole IG range so a superheavy was sort of the logical next step for me but in truth i wish id got another valk and hellhound instead, even though i couldnt paint the fuckers.
any questions or comments appreciated xx
